Just my guess.
I'd buy at launch if it had original games, maybe at TGS they'll talk about it.
Nintendo, for me, is only truly relevant in the portable market (but that may change due to all the 3DS news, however).
I'm pretty sure Reggie said the console would only support one Wii-U tablet at a time, per console, in the foreseeable future.
If we're talking a 3DS style line up, no thanks.
To make me pay 300 or over, it needs to offer up maybe a HD special edition Skyward Sword, A new Mario Bros like the Wii one but with built in online MP, Dragon Quest 10 in the same style as VIII (game would be great with the U controller) and a bunch of other top IPs.
And their entire back catalogue on their Wii U store that's well integrated into a user interface that's easy to use and at the same level as the PS3 and 360.
Something along those lines. Pull out the big guns Nintendo, no point in expecting us all to jump if you have nothing but hardware to offer us. The 3DS should have thought you at least that.
And if they don't offer an adequate online system, if the controller is too fragile, if battery life is too short... Lots of ifs.
A few solid first party titles and a rare third party gem will not keep the WiiU afloat. Unless it wants to be the next "most popular netflix streaming console"
Don't get me started, I'm already less than happy that most of the skyward sword delays are so they can pull a Twilight Princess dual system launch.....
Its the same old Nintendo Shenanigans that are a good part of the reason the 3DS didn't sell all that well. Because everyone knows what to expect and that "what" is a 3DSi launched within a year or so of the initial 3DS launch.
If they keep pulling tricks out of the same tired old bag they might as well get out of the console market.....
"I'm not 100% positive but I don't think the system will support more than one Wii U controller. Only one person at a time can play the tablet.... but anything could happen."
Ati apparently confirmed the hardware can technically support up to 4 video streams, which includes the controllers with screens and the TV.
For Nintendo, It's a matter of cost, because apparently the conrollers are not cheap and selling them individually could send the "wrong message" to consumers.
@El Conrado
I'm guessing that probably means they'll allow multiple tablet play in a firmware update when manufacturing costs for the tablet go down.
How many gamers buy only Nintendo systems? I ask because I used to obsess over evry little design choice Nintendo made. Then I grew up and realized Nintendo is the company that goes against the grain they do there own thing. So i embrace that I know that whatever they put out will be great in it own right. Even if its not the most modern or up to date tech, I will have tons of fun playing games I grew up with shiny new graphics and gameplay . If you have realistic expectations for a company that makes a lot of the same moves over and over its hard to be disappointed. I like that they are going some where vastly different then the other guys. I like variety so they always have a place in my house next to my other game systems.
That would be my guess, too.
They could also let the "market" decide what it wants, by letting 3rd party devs use more than one tablet in their games and see where that goes.
They basically said something like it for 3D: the system supports it and any dev that want can use it, but they themselves won't do anything with it.
I'm imagining $300 to $350, though. (In response, Microsoft will announce that the Xbox 720 will cost an arm and a leg, literally, and Sony comes out soon after saying they want your firstborn child for the PS4.)
I'm willing to wait a few months for it to drop from the actual price to something more reasonable. Probably even longer.
Sony isn't really in a good position to do another price drop as it only started to make a profit on the PS3 hardware last year. Problem is, PS3 sales have been down. In fac, last month they sunk as low as the Wii's. If this keeps up before the holidays, Sony may be forced to take action by either resorting to a new bundle or doing a small price cut to further benefit from the holiday season.
"How many gamers buy only Nintendo systems?"
When I was a kid with a limited income during the Nintendo/Sega days, I was definitively on the “Nintendo” camp, and I refused, REFUSED, to play any Sega stuff.
Yeah, I grew up.
Now I buy whatever system I need to play a Game I want to play, so the hardware became sort of a “barrier” to my games. Still, Nintendo made most of my favorite games, but it’s because the game’s style and quality it is so, and not just the brand.
I don’t think anyone calling himself a “gamer” would limit himself by a brand name.
Anything more than that, and I'll just build an incredibly powerful PC and emulate everything.
