The Wii U's launch window is now a bit shorter with the latest word from Nintendo. According to Inside Games, Nintendo stated that the Wii U is slated to go on sale between next June and the end of 2012. That's just a bit shorter than the original window, which was originally given to be between April and December. Technically that's farther away. Bummer.
We're with Kotaku in that we're sure a launch date will be given at E3 2012. We'll get our paws on the Wii U in a few short weeks at CES 2012.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I hope the final design isn't as stupid as the name
besides they need to maximize profits off the 3ds and wii this holidays
People said the same thing about the Wiimote. Stfu until after you've played the thing.
A later release is more healthy, I think. It's only by a few months, but hey, I think we should take what we can get. All I'm interested in is a solid line-up for the thing.
This isn't just my mind set. The fad is more than likely dead, I doubt they're going to sucker the same casual-gaming grown-ups into buying this like the Wii. From what I've seen, the only reason I'll have to get this is for the Nintendo titles...but I've gotta be honest, while I love the shit out of their games, none of them are system sellers in my book. :(
Shit...unless they come out with a brand new Pikmin that scores rave reviews. Then we'll talk :P
"Wii Tsu!"
"Iie, Iie, Wii 2!
"No, Wii U!!!!"
Bless you, Nintendo. Bless y-- OH MY GOD!!
The inevitable price drop? You mean like with the Wii, where they didn't drop the price of the system, for almost 3 full years. Don't count on Nintendo dropping the price of every future hardware quickly, just because they did it with the 3DS.
They realized that the priced the 3DS too high, so they quickly corrected it, probably by too much, but its working out for them now, so I guess they knew what they were doing. I wouldn't expect them to make that same mistake again though, only a year later. The Wii U will be $249, or $299, because if its any higher, than yes you will be right. A quick price drop would probably come within a year, but I doubt that will happen!
MY OPINION BURNS YOUR SOUL. Shut your own God damned mouth. Nintendo is just trying a new gimmick, just like everything they put out lately has been bells and whistles and no meat and potatoes. Like I said before, get your shit together Nintendo.
Why ARE you mad?
Mad? why were all mad down here good sir or madam.
I'm not really mad, just expressing my wish that Nintendo should quit with all these little features and crap that in the end only brings down their name. Nintendo needs to stop relying on 3D, on tablet-esque hardware no one could care less about.
How about making a solid contender that makes me want your system. Make an online version of punch out you can customize the way your fighter looks/fights. Make a new Mario RPG, stop relying so heavily on your first party titles and make new IPS or collaborate w other companies to help Nintendo get back to what it used to be.
"Make an online version of Punch Out"
Fight Night Wii U. EA will do it for you.
"Make a new Mario RPG"
There are two on the DS, and the upcoming Paper Mario on the 3DS.
"Stop Relying so Heavily on your First Party Titles"
What makes me want to buy a Wii-U then?
"Make new ips or collaborate with other companies"
Again, there's a truckload of new stuff coming for the 3DS in the new year, and hell, EA wants to take over managing the Online of the Wii U.
But hey, if you want Nintendo to be the wandering failure of days of the Gamecube, be my guest.
OK so the Mario RPG I want isn't on the system you're trying to sell me? DS? 3DS? you're trying to convince me to buy this NEW piece of shit. don't tell me our older models have em.
and truckloads of software? sorry dude, but a plethora of shovelware garbage does not a good system make.
Convince me that there are AAA stellar games that are going to be on this, and as of yet I haven't heard any.
NO ONE knows what's going to be on the Wii U yet. That's why people are still on the fence.
And if you're referencing the original Wii with your "plethora of shovelware garbage" comment, then you've got to try harder than that. There may be tons of shovelware games on the Wii, but look at Kinect on the 360 and the Move controller on the PS3. Just as much shovelware. The Wii has just as many great games as the other platforms -- You just have to be willing to look. And it sounds like you aren't.
Don't care about sales figures,GCs library is infinitely better than the Wiis. hands down.
Either way. Total moron.
3 Of those are Wii U Only (with the exception of DQX), and three of those have backing of triple A development studios. One of them is a game people cried tears when Shiggy announced it.
As an added plus, the Wii U version of Arkham City will probably be the game of the year edition with Batman in a bear suit with all the DLC they're pumping out.
I understand what you're saying. But if I have to look for reasons to want your product, then the product itself must not be very good. Give me reasons to stay up on your release date, the games that are going to make me want to buy this system. Not "oh nintendos making a new thing! OH BOY! BETTER GET EXCITED TO end up completely wasting my enthusiasm and faith in a company that just doesn't get it anymore."
yes, Sony and ms also have their own shovelware garbage, but they can back it up with titles they KNOW I want. also their online network needs a rehaul. completely and totally.
it's just a way to enjoy the games. and look! it still has buttons! enjoy that while you can.
You misspelled "owned". Unless you where going for "JunkTown3d".
Then you misspelled "JunkTown".
What this system seems to be is too little too late in all honesty man. While I want to play Pikmin 3 and am mildly interested in Dragon Quest, the rest are titles I can find on systems I currently own.
I love Nintendo, I really do. and I'd love to be excited about a new system they release, but I know (just like many others) the times I have bought their new gadget or system it gets played maybe once or twice and then it becomes a professional dust collector.
What sounds more crazy; releasing a new system in 2012 with touch control, or releasing anything in 2012 without touch control?
All the tablet-to-TV features and asynchronous multiplayer are advantageous side-effects of having touch control on a console.
AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA--
Oh, wait, you're actually serious!?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA
I understand were your comming from, I don't see the need in buying a new console day one for only 1 good exclusive. I would rather save my money for games for the systems I already have. The thing you have to realsie is Nintendo fanboys much like any fanboys are immune to logic.
