Just curious--how many people here (non-journalists) are actually planning to buy the Wii U at launch?
maybe they should hold off on this launch and not try and get it out so fast like the 3ds.
I, for one, am super excited to play a local, competitive, fog-of-war-style strategy game with both players holding their own GamePad and each seeing different information on their screen.
June 2009: WiiMotionPlus, required for some games and offers what we expected from the wii in the first place is released.
February 2011: Nintendo 3DS is released.
December 2011: Circle-Pad Pro which gives the 3DS a second analogue stick is released, with many games promising support.
Xmas 2012: Wii U is released.
??? 2013: 2nd GamePad support is released.
Is anyone else getting sick of Nintendo releasing unfinished products?
You can already do that, its called Advance Wars and you were able to do it on a gameboy advance.
Funny, innit?
Anyway, the whole duel gamepad thing came to me as a bit of a surprise as I had already accepted the fact of a single gamepad. And with Controller Pro and Wiimote compatibility, then this isn't such a big deal.
If one runs at 60fps and two runs at 30fps (straight from the horses mouth), can we expect three to run at 15fps?
What happened to you, Nintendo? You used to be cool!
@Stealth
Going by your previous comments, I see you adamently think the Wii U will sell out at launch. I wish I had the skills that you do to predict that without knowing the price or what the console comes with.
What the fuck have devs been doing with the DS all these years?
It's not like this time they're charging you to add the double Gamepad support. They're going to give you one Gamepad at launch like they always do with every one of their consoles.
The addition wasn't an afterthought, it was an idea from the beginning that the devs had a difficult time trying to work in without breaking the system. Let game studios get the knack of using one Gamepad at first, and then we'll let them figure out how to do both. Relax.

And this is what most of you don't understand - you cannot just keep on dividing a system's ability to stream data without consequence. It's a game console, it has to render visuals and data, sense inputs and then stream it. It's not like watching YouTube.
"The addition wasn't an afterthought, it was an idea from the beginning that the devs had a difficult time trying to work in without breaking the system."
Sounds like a flawed system to me.
it's rather obvious WHY they are doing it - especially given the rumored price of over 100$ for a GamePad.
no publisher would support it at launch or probably even in first year as most people wouldn't invest in second 100+$ tablet at launch after buying 350$ console plus games for additional $$$.
they obviously want to have big enough userbase for it to be worthwhile for publishers(to spend resources on special features just in case someone has the second GamePad) and time for developers to get to know the hardware before jumping on the second GamePad. and as i've said before, for consumers who will be willing to spend additional money on another tablet.
I wasn't sure if it was 60/3 or 60/2/2.
As when you have resistances with ohms every time you drop the ohm load in half you gain roughly 1.5 twice as much power, so I just assumed it worked the same way but with frames per seconds as working backwards doubling the ohm cuts the power damn near in half with frames, lol. It was a limb that I went out on.
30fps is a nice constant to have for sure!
The technology is a bit limited, so they should make the console to surpass the limitations instead of merely working around them. Maybe have more wireless transmitters or a better CPU. I wouldn't mind paying more for a great experience, instead of now where I'm not sure if I would pay 200$ for it. It has current gen specs, which I find enough but it's cheap technology now, add to it everything you can to make the console a unique system instead of a Wii+DS 1.5
Last I checked
A) The DS has two screens
B) The system puts stuff on both screens
C) Developers have known how to use both screens
Sorry, but after their "Pikmin has no online multiplayer because of too many things on screen" I've revoked their "make up bullshit excuses" card.
"Sounds like a flawed system to me." Well, that's kind of the whole point of releasing the support after launch, *once it's ready*: so it's n o t flawed.
The feature won't matter if it's at launch or not if there aren't any games to even show for it.
Did you honestly think games would just magically incorpororate a feature that didnt exist until their e3 conference?
I thought you guys were supposed to be smart...
Nintendo had to expect people would naturally ask them if Wii U could support more than one GamePad controller. Iwata stated that Wii U can technically support more than one GamePad, but the primary concern Iwata talked about the cost of the controller, which is something he's continued to dicuss at E3 2011. He's hinted that it selling a standalone GamePad would cost more than a normal controller (which is like what, $60?). Nintendo felt that one GamePad would be adequate and that all developers (including third-parties) should work under the assumption to develop games based around one GamePad. A year later, what do we see? Games based around one GamePad.
Nintendo has been honest and upfront about this. Nintendo goes with technology that is adequate and affordable not excessive and expensive. That's been applied to the types of components they choose to implement into the Wii U GamePad.
No, really. Like if you guys want to deflate the Wii U bubble, make it an irrelevant purchase, because fan feedback really isn't great at this point.
