ext4 supports drives up to ~1Exabyte.
Also, this news made the cheaper bundle seem better for me, since I do a bulk of my gaming on PC and mainly play niche titles on console.

I never thought I'd see the day where Nintendo was on par with Sony's six year old hardware and software. Wow. Incredible. Way to go, Nintendo.
This is a step in the right direction and, as the gap between console and pc contnues to be bridged, hopefully something Microsoft and Sony will consider emulating. Back when I still owned a 360, I found it absolutely galling how ridiculously overpriced their replacement hard drives were and don't even get me started on the price of that fucking WiFi dongle, back before the newer model with the built in wireless antenna.
It's about time console developers stop trying to nickel and dime us on accessories when we all know most of their profit comes from game sales.

For all those guys who think this is a good move: It is not a good move, it is borderline retarded to not have internal HDD.
The USB 2.0 interface is very slow(480 Mbps) when compared with the SATA interface(3 Gbps) used by internal hard drives. Just as a test case, I installed CivIV to both my external HDD as well as internal HDD(extremely slow bog standard 5400rpm 2.5" drive of the type used in PS3 or most mainstream laptops). The game loads 2x faster on the internal HDD and the textures stream more smoothly with lesser LoD issues. Replacing the HDD with a 2.5" ultra fast SSD gives even better performance.
Nintendo should have provided an internal hard drive bay in addition to supporting external USB hard drives. BTW did anybody bother to quiz Nintendo about file system support for the external hard drive. Does the WiiU support all the popular file systems used on external HDD(FAT, NTFS, HFS, EXT)?

Quick question: how many USB drives are there on the WiiU? 'Cause if one is permanently taken up by the HDD and there are two like on the slim PS3, that's going to suck.
I have the Bluetooth headset connector and a USB drive permanently plugged in my PS3, having to unplug one to connect my Vita is a hassle I could do without.
