Wii theft from retirement home proves nothing is sacred photo

Wii shortages have turned up everything from insanely overpriced auctions on Ebay to lines waiting for retailers' Wii shipments to arrive, but this is some seriously unacceptable news. The folks at the Lilac Plaza Retirement Home had been saving money from the sale of recipe books to purchase a Wii for the seniors' use. They succeeded and purchased one, only to have it stolen this past weekend.

GoNintendo posted the original story and plans to buy a Wii and send it to the home to replace the stolen console.

I know people generally suck, but this is more infuriating than most stories. Who steals from old people at Christmastime? I hope the person responsible dies in a fire. Anyway, if you want to help out, go check out the post and put in your two cents. We can't let this kind of thing happen to fellow gamers, no matter what age.

[Via GoNintendo - Thanks Justin!]

Why steal a Wii? Its worth $250. If your gonna steal something at least make it a 80gig PS3.

Now that low. Fucked up and low. Poor old folks, it'll be a while before they can bowl again. For good PR and charity sake Nintendo should provide them with a new one.

Nothing will deter worthless thieves, not the time of year, not the fact they steal from people at an old folks home, nothing, they, they're scabs of society, having more in common with a turn than an actual being.

Repeat offenders should be executed on the spot.

Jack, didn't you read the beginning? You can't find a Wii except on ebay for...at least 400. Some go as high as 500, and obviously anyone selling bundles sell for way more than their worth. PS3's on the other hand...

This is very sad. Especially since some dick is gonna buy that Wii for 500 on ebay.

I giggled at first at the pic but then after readin the story, the mood just changed.

seriously it's 250. If you got time to steal, you got time to buy overpriced shit on ebay.

Terrible, absolutly terrible. The fact that they had to "save up" to get one, actually found one and got it, only to have it stolen makes it just that much worse.

Hilarious caption, Colette...but of course, the story caused that laughter to vanish. The punk in question (or gang of punks) should, at the very least, be forced to do community service at said retirement home. Of course, I’d rather that they do some hard time, but apparently, they have video games in prison now.

If it's like most retirement home thefts, the culprit is more than likely one of the people who work there.

Do you recall that assassination in Assassins Creed where you had to take out the guy who was burning all the books? Well remember when that one guy protested and was thrown into the fire by the target? Don't you think he died a little quick in that fire? I'm not sure but I always thought that guy should have screamed and squirmed around for at least 15 more seconds. Or do people usually burn to death in a fire within the first few seconds?

Wow, what a bastard.
Also, @ Holyetheline, if you die in a fire right away I imagine it'd have to be pretty damn hot I'd imagine. I doubt it though, which makes burning a pretty shitty way to go.

having my grandmother in a retirement home, and considering that the fees are ASTRONOMICAL to keep her there, why the hell did they make the old people sell cookbooks in order to buy the wii? seriously, its like over $4000 a month to keep her there, I'm pretty sure they're not hurting for money.

its sad that someone stole that wii, but this isn't the first time someone was robbed at a retirement home, and I'd bet my toes that it was taken by someone on the staff.

Evil bastards. We find a way of letting the older generation overcome misconceptions about video games, and that opportunity has been stolen.

May justice be done! >:o(

Last christmas, over the holidays, theives broke into the old folks rec center where i was teaching computer classes. They stole/destroyed the meals on wheels dinners prepared for the christmas. Fortunately they were stupid enough to leave a trail of destruction and rubbish all the way to their front door for the cops to follow.

@Pedro Blandino you're right, some of them are better than others. some of the better ones will actually come up with the idea of getting a wii for their tennants to play with, and others... stick them in a room and let them rot. I doubt a shitty retirement home (and thats the key word here, its not a "nursing home" where they basically put them in a room and keep them alive) would even bother with that.
