It should come as no surprise to anybody that Nintendo, along with the other platform holders, is already thinking of the next generation. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed that a Wii successor is in production as we speak. Iwata added, however, that current plans aren't necessarily indicative of what the future may hold for Nintendo's hardware.
"The hardware team started work on the next thing as soon as they were done with their previous project, but what they think up doesn't necessarily become a product," explained the Nintendo boss. “We only turn something into a product after it's been thoroughly vetted inside the company. We're not at a point where we can give specifics, but of course we're working on it."
Where will Nintendo takes its hardware designs to next? The next step would be mind-controlled videogames, and now that I've decided this is definitely what Nintendo is working on, I will disappointed -- bitterly -- by anything less.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Yeah I went there
dang you outspeeded(is that even a word?) me
2*wii==4*gamecube
Seriously, I was just thinking of buying a cheap 360. I can't afford consoles at the beginning of their life cycles, and, by the time I can, they only have two years left on the clock anyway. This is ridiculous.
Made that mistake with the Wii, not doing it again.
I want to play Boom Blox so bad. Oh well, guess it's plan B.
Sit it out and wait with a PS3/PC to keep me company.
Realistically I'd expect something with graphical capabilities in the ballpark, but probably slightly below, an xbox 360 with a motion controller similar to the Wii. Probably with an optimized button layout, the MotionPlus built in, a higher precision IR unit, and a whopping 2GB of internal flash RAM.
They should call it Super Wiitendo Entertainment System, but Xii is also acceptable.
The NES, SNES and even Gamecube had a mad amount of games, many of them very good. This system is starting to bore me, and I am a huge Nintendo fan.
My mid-life crisis is going to make me forgo nostalgia and ditch the Wii for a 360.
