Wii Sports trembles: 2K announces Top Spin Tennis for the Wii photo

While the tennis portion of Wii Sports might have been enough to fill the cravings of some, it really only scratched the service of what we all had dreams a Wii tennis game could be. 2K Sports hopes to remedy this with Top Spin Tennis, an exclusive new game for the Wii being developed by PAM Development and 2K's Shangai studios.

Unlike Nintendo's offering, Top Spin Tennis will actually allow you to control the movement of your player, as well as aiming. The Wii Remote is used in a similar fashion to Wii Sports' tennis, swung like an actual tennis racket, and controlling shot styles and power.

Top Spin Tennis will also feature a full range of game modes (singles, doubles, mixed, and non-mixed matches), as well as exhibition and tournament modes. The game will also feature more than a dozen licensed tennis stars (of which I know zero of unless they're dating a pop star), along with ten original characters. The game can be played with up to four players, and will contain the Wii prerequisite "collection of party games."

Top Spin Tennis will be available Spring 2008.

If Wii Boxing can barely detect what kind of punch I'm throwing, I doubt Top Spin can emulate tennis.

I'm surprised it took this long for something like this to come out. Also, I don't think I'd hit it.

I'm more of a virtua tennis kinda guy but I am glad the wii is finally getting a real tennis game. I've spent way too much time wishing wii tennis wasn't dumbed down to the point of being kind of awkward. I'll be looking forward to a tennis game where you can ACTUALLY CONTROL YOUR CHARACTER. I don't think nintendo's ease of use strategy is quite what it should be when every non-gamer's first question is "How do I move my guy?" and I'm left trying to explain how to them how it would even be possible to play a tennis game without moving your tennis player.

i have a feeling it'll not live up to the expectations, but it'll be a good first step for future tennis games on wii. I wonder how you control your dude, with the nunchuck? then how the hell can you take a nice full tennis swing (like all the people woh really play tennis in real life would want to do) when the cord is so attaching cord is so short? Just how realistic do they want this game to be?

I did not say you could use my picture!!

As for the game, you mean I finally get a tennis game where I do not have to play doubles and can play an actual set or match? I am not sure I can handle that!! I can't wait!

Top Spin 2 was a pretty good game, so I think this Wii version will bode well. If you don't have confidence in the Wii version being a good idea, just check out Top Spin 2 on 360. I have faith it'll be handled well, and its nice Rockstar's Table Tennis to get some competition.

If they put both of these babies online on Wii and if advertised well, I bet many people will bite and buy them.

Now where's Virtua Tennis, or better yet, Cosmic Smash for Wii, Sega?

"If Wii Boxing can barely detect what kind of punch I'm throwing, I doubt Top Spin can emulate tennis."

What an awesome comparison. There's no fail in it whatsoever. I mean, it's perfectly sane to use a boxing mini-game that was featured on a console pack-in disk to forecast the probability of whether or not a full-blown TENNIS game made by an entirely different company just won't work.

I think we need to bring more ideas for this purpose. Involvement of young people can be handy in this regard. I am happy to find a good post here. Thank you
