If you're a daily browser of Digg like I am, then you already know about the anti-Sony and PlayStation 3 insanity that is taking hold of it like a G.I. Joe grip gone to hell. There's pictures of boxes, there's EB pleadings for buyers, and most importantly: THERE'S BOXES ON THE FLOOR!
Well, in order to make sure there is a balance in the force, I happened to come across this Wii box in my living room, UNSOLD! It's just there, and nobody has bought it! Can you believe it! Please, let's Digg it and make sure everyone knows that there's an empty box somewhere! Because if people don't know there's an empty box somewhere, then the terrorists have won.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Seriously though, I take everyone on Digg with a huge grain of salt and think of it more of a humor page.
Yeah, I wouldn't exactly call Digg an established news source. Its more of a medium for internet sensationalism. Granted, I love Digg as much as the next guy, anything that that generates any sort of buzz is bound to sky-rocket its way to the top Digg Top Stories list. Thats just the way things work.
Digg may be good for seeing pictures of kids who get stuck inside crane games, slow motion videos of bullets passing through watermelons, fierce fights between atheists and the religious, a plethora of optical illusions, store cameras of stupid criminals, and anything anti-internet explorer, but a reliable source for video game news it is not.
Then again, thats why we have gamer blogs, right? (I'll ignore the fact that it so happens every now and then I see a blog entry pop up on many a game blog directly as a result of digg.)
Why don't you post about that new Wii rumour, its bigger news than this.
LOL!
I think the real issue here is why are things sold in boxes still? Shouldn't there be something cooler and more revolusionary? I mean come on the box is so late 1840's
*RUNS INTO WALL AND DIES MULTIPLE TIMES*
Cheers!
lol
If you think I'm going to forget that every time you feel the need to badmouth the system, you're gravely mistaken. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Believe me, it's not that I'm a fanboy of any kind (I'll gladly post a pic of the systems I own as proof) but I'm a fan of decent journalism from journalists. I'm hoping against hope that one day, Summa will wake the hell up. He's still bitter about the incident wherein he kept people up at night about some "amazing" Nintendo news and pulled the ol' bait-and-switch when it was absolutely meaningless news (well, not totally meaningless, but nothing worth staying up for) and was fired for being an idiot. Then he went and badmouthed his former employer in a very public forum - the biggest no-no in the professional world. It wasn't necessarily the bait-and-switch that made me lose respect for him. It was the aftermath, and the painfully-transparent attempts at saying, "No, I'm not anti-Nintendo. See?" with "stories" like this. Then there was the retarded column he did for the Metro in New York where he said that nintendo's only way to survive was to ally itself with Apple.
Basically, Robert Summa is being paid to do what thousands of visitors to this site - myself included - could do, but do a far worse job at it. I know I'm not the only one who's been asking for a filter to get rid of Summa's immature whining. Thankfully, the more BS like this he puts out there, the greater the backlash. D'toid, you know what to do.
That is all.
also if you guys didn't notice, destructoid is a "Hardcore Gaming Blog", not a sissy everything-must-be-politically-correct site where everything must be looked at objectively (i.e. IGN, gamespot, etc.). this isn't owned by a corporation.. it's just a bunch of friends who wanted to go to E3! you guys should be grateful this site even exists!
Because Summa isn't just a blogger. His "job" is to be a journalist, and he's paid to do this on a professional level. He's not freelance either - he pointed this out earlier - but he's on staff with professional publications. This isn't the "Nintendo universe" as I've called him on other bullshit posts as well that badmouth other things. The only reason that Summa is called repeatedly on his Nintendo-bashing is because
a) it is so prevalent, and
b) it doesn't make any sense.
Oftentimes, Summa's rambling is filler for the site, as this post was. The "joke" here was completely lost, because there is no joke.
If you want even more fun, it's easily-provable that Summa himself is a Sony fanboy. I can find comments he did on Kotaku that were quite strong about this, and even his reply to a post from Niero about getting a PS3 had a dig at the Wii. From someone who isn't "just another blogger" it's something to consider.
Summa's job is to find us interesting things in the ecumenical gaming universe that the mainstream press might miss, as well as the most important gaming news events of the day. The job is not to be an arrogant, insufferable douche with a hard-on for a company and taking every opportunity to be a smart-ass when it's not warranted. Remember, Summa deals with Golin Harris, Nintendo's PR reps, likely on a daily basis. Do you think he says to them, "I think the Wii is weaksauce and isn't the future of gaming?" Not a bloody chance. He's very polite to them, as that how the free shit train keeps a-rollin' through the station.
This is why I've been trying to get Summa to sell his Wii for charity. My reasoning is simple: Summa doesn't want it - that's been made clear - and he didn't pay any real money for it. There are a number of people out there who would be more than happy to have his Wii, and why not benefit a charity to be a nice guy? Because he won't part with his free shit. No way. And that's the saddest part.
"The only reason that Summa is called repeatedly on his Nintendo-bashing is because "
You just went straight to Nintendo. Who cares? He's a hater. Deal. Critics be critics, and if he was an asshole or not-totally-the-decent-guy to his superiors, then of course he'd get fired.
Look dewd, stop being all butt hurt because Summa has a cozy position and lifestyle that you long for. Your asking him to give away his Wii? Yeah thats a real sign of professionalism. Half the editors on this site usually give away thier personal stash of gaming crap, just to keep jerk offs like you happy. So dont judge D'toid monkey, just keep refreshing for a contest. You'll win something. Except people's mind's. You can't change that by whinning.
Umm, yeah. I have the same lifestyle thankfully, as my wife is a game journo. But a real one. Who actually has journalist skills. She turns down free shit she doesn't want or need. Or sells it and gives the money to charity if there's something she's given that she doesn't want to keep long-term. But nice try to pin me down with something you know nothing about.
Look, if you're happy to read the Summa tripe, then that's fine. but don't begrudge the growing number of people who don't.
Just because your wife is too busy writing and selling or giving stuff away for free, doesn't mean Summa needs to be like her. No one said Summa was a role model, but his spark for flame war is bright.
AND STOP BEING SUCH A FUCKING ASSHOLE YOU DICK SHIT GOAT LICK RETARD!!!!
THIS IS THE INTERNET! I'm reading a website about fucking VIDEOGAMES! This has no bearing on my real life or the real world beyond some silly superficialities. Even if Summa does hates Ninty (which I don't believe he does, just thinks they're over-rated) so the fuck what? He still makes me giggle every now and then and that's all I can ask and hope for. He can post blogs about shitting on newborn's faces and I could care less, because my life will go on the same. More power to you Summa, First amendment FTW!
I swear to god I added 10 people on my friends list from D'toid and not one has played a good game of gears with me yet. This indeed is a disturbing universe.
How's that for flame bait?
