Wii Shop Update: BIT.TRIP BEAT, Summer Games II

It seems like it's all about rhythm this week in the Wii Shop.

BIT.TRIP BEAT (Aksys Games, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points) is a rhythm-matching game on WiiWare which has players bouncing out beats with the motion controls with the Wii remote. It's described as having a retro feel to it, with a chiptune soundtrack and old-school visuals. Sounds like something which appeals to my interests.

Summer Games II^™ (Commodore 64, 1-8 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points), on the other hand, does not. While I can't say that the controller-wrecking series of games from Epyx for the Commodore 64 is bad, it's graphics are almost painful to look at now and the game was so frustrating to play with a full joystick that I can't imagine trying to play it with a d-pad.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points^™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:
