Wii price drop: $199 US starting Sept 27, UK screwed photo

Nintendo has just announced a price drop for the Wii. Wow, what a surprise!

America gets the price drop first on September 27 followed by Japan on October 1. The system will now sell for $199 in America and 20,000 Yen in Japan. The system will still come with everything that was included at the $250 price point, including Wii Sports.

Europe appears to have been screwed so far, as the price went up and then back down. Car salesmen, take notes!

Well, that's an extra game that I'll be able to pick up with the console whenever I finally get one. There's a good backlog of games on both PS3 and Wii that I want to play, so I honestly don't know which to get first.

Great for anyone who was looking at picking one up though. I'm just hoping Nintendo are trying to ease more people into gaming culture so they can make another hardcore console and everyone loves it.

Why do they lower the price before they come out with a Black Wii?

I would be much more interested in a black wii than a $200 one.

I can only hope that they're waiting until the Monster Hunter 3 North American release.

I remember a quote back from 2005 or 2006, when the Wii price was announced. A pissed off guy said "Thanks a lot Nintendo, see you in 2008". lol, how naive we all were back then, thinking a price drop would actually come in 2 years.

But seriously, fuck you Nintendo. No price drop for over 3 years, no different colors, no nothing. They just milked it for as long as they could without changing anything at all. And I really wanted a black Wii too. And by the time the drop actually comes, it's only $50, and I am way beyond caring anymore. So yeah, the Wii is probably my least favorite console, if you couldn't already tell. But I still am looking forward to playing New Super Mario Bros.

It's way cheaper than trying to buy an NES, an SNES, a Genesis, an N64, a Gamecube, a Turbografx 16, a Neo Geo, and a Gamecube.

Everybody bitches about how Nintendo has forsaken the "hardcore gamer" with games like Animal Crossing and Wii Sports, as if the company is suddenly gonna stop making everything else. It's just sad.

Lower it? Remember, they raised it by 20 quid in the UK, some bullshit about exchange rates. If they lower it back to what it was they'll probably treat it like they're doing us a favour.

I understand it takes time to make stuff. Getting a Zelda and a Metroid every year would be pretty tricky, unless we want the series to go the way of Madden and Guitar Hero. At least we're still getting a solid first-party title or two every year.

You could argue that even the core series are going soft, but I'm not sure it holds up. Zelda hasn't been about being ball-bustingly hard since The Adventure of Link.
