OK, here's some video of the Wii trying to connect to do an update, but I guess it's just not online officially, so it was kinda stuck there and then it gave the error message you'll see at the end. This video also shows you some of the ports that you guys were asking about and something odd about the sensor bar. Enjoy!
Just because its late and I have nothing better to contribute. I do wonder if its worth getting an IR modded webcam on the sensor in daylight up to the point where it has a problem.
Excellent insight... even though you've been raggin on nintendo lately the system seems to have you excited... being a skeptic myself, how does actually getting it into your hands feel? I have to keep reminding myself that the 1st round of DS games weren't that hot and it took developers time to get used to the functionality. But most of all How's Zelda???
I haven't been able to play Zelda yet. I'll let you all know how Zelda is tomorrow. I plan on taking the Wii with me to a friend's place in Conn. and letting a few of them test it out. I plan on getting vid of all that too.
Definitely by Sunday I'll let you all know what I think of Zelda. I know you've heard impressions all over the place, but I'm sure you can expect a fair level of honesty on my end. At least, I hope so.
The lighting up is the inferred in the bar, you can't see IR with the naked eye.
try pointing a controller at that cam(witch I can tell has night shot, because it is picking up IR) and push buttons.. watch it light up like a flash light.
This is how Camcorders see in the night. Inferred LEDs are used as a light source.
Sorry, I'm a big Tech Geek :p
Love the Wii Videos!
InFRA red, Pedro. Normally I wouldn't correct somebody on this (yes I would) but if you're a big tech geek then spelling it like that is a huge faux pas.
'Sensor' bar is a bit misleading, it's actually just two infrared LEDs that are a known distance apart. I think you'll find that the cable connecting it to the console is just for power. You can verify this by how it tracks objects that emit infrared, such as the sun (it needs two sources to track properly).
There was an article somewhere about a 'wireless 2.4Ghz sensor bar', which is total scam, since it just needs to be two LEDs and a battery. They could also probably be built directly into televisions, which would be kinda neat.
... I suppose the wireless sensor bar could use a 2.4Ghz signal to turn itself on and off in sync with the console. That would be alright, it just seems like overkill.
