Wii platformer Wario Land Shake details unveiled

Wii platformer Wario Land Shake details unveiled photo
     2D

I know: the text is in Japanese, the pictures are blurry, and there's only one page to look at. It's all we've got for now. But it's enough to get fans of Nintendo 2D platformers excited, myself included.

Wiifanboy points us to a leaked fact sheet that managed to sneak out onto the internet only one day after Nintendo's newest 2D platformer, Wario Land Shake, was revealed in Japan. So far, the word is that this 2D action game will feature cel-shaded characters and hand-drawn backgrounds and art.

The folks at NeoGAF used their decoder rings to reveal that there will be 20 stages in various vistas (desert, jungle, ocean) where you'll get the chance to use vehicles like rockets and submarines in gameplay. And, if you couldn't guess by the name, shaking the Wii Remote will permit special actions like rattling enemies for coins or unlocking secret locations.

For now, all we know is that this title will be released in Japan some time in 2008, and it will cost 5,800 yen ($50). Oh, and that Wario is the star.

Hit the jump to see the full fact sheet.

Does this title interest you? Do you remember the first Wario platformer?

=O... a real Wario Land game?!

I'm really disappointed with the tacked-on Wiimote use, however. It looks to be lazily-thrown in like in Super Paper Mario.

hmm, I'm not really excited about this yet- we'll see. Hope this isn't one of Treasure's Wii projects.

We'll probably hear much more at e3 I'd imagine.

Awesome! Wario Land was a great series, happy to see it being revived :)

@Novakaine: How can you say the wiimote looks to be tacked on when you have next to no information about the title?

I have to say my favorite wario land was the one for virtual boy lol. And the worst is the one for the DS that was out not too long ago.

Nintendo better learn double-quick that waggle does not improve games where it makes little sense. I will not be buying any more adventure/ platforming games with waggle.

Is this one of Treasure's projects? I thought the two games they were doing for the Wii were 3D? I guess we'll eventually find out. Still looks pretty though, I'll definitely get it.

this game might be good, but $50 for a 2D fricking platformer in this age? Too steep man.

YES! I'm psyched! The Wario Land games were brilliant.
I hope it doesn't involve too much shaking though.

@Tim042: I'm gathering it at the part where they say you shake the remote to get coins and find hidden areas; and the images showing the same remote motion over and over.

Its good to see a sweet 2D game again. They are becoming very rare these days. Its intersting that this is on Wii and not DS, but the Wario Land games have been good. I'll keep this on my radar.

Don't go judging the controls just yet. Not until someone outside Nintendo, has played this game.

I love the Wario series so I'm looking forward to this. If this is one of Treasure's titles, my head will explode.

@ran24: I'd rather pay $50 for a 2D platformer than a generic 3D game.

Bah!! Nintendo *spits on the ground*

Why, back in my day we marveled at someones ability to press buttons, not waving plastic do hickeys around in the air like a moron. Keep your god damned waggle bullshit out of my 2D!

AND GET OFF MY LAWN TOO!!

I'm always interested in 2D platformers. Wario is always a pleasure. I just hope the waggle is bearable. Please let it be bearable.

I do remember the first Wario Land title, back on the gameboy. It was terrible - easy as shit and boring.
I'm not sure why people think Treasure might be involved, but that's the only thing that could get me to car, and I'm pretty much always down for 2D platformers.
