Wii owners, start your decathlon training: Deca Sports is now gold photo

We recently put up a trailer for Hudson Entertainment’s Deca Sports, a collection of ten sports games in one package for the Wii. The response from you guys was mostly negative, with responses like, “The old folks homes will be bursting with excitement when this comes out,” and “DO NOT WANT”. Perhaps the following news will change your mind.

Hudson sent out a press release today (see the jump) announcing that the game has gone gold. That seems rather peculiar given its May 13th (yes, that’s a week earlier than we were previously told) release date. Often, a game won’t go gold until a week or two before it hits store shelves, so in this case, I’m curious as to what Hudson is waiting for, since the game is done. I mean, the 2008 Summer Olympics won’t be held until August, so it’s not like they’re going to capitalize on that.

Regardless, I’ve attached 20 screenshots of the game, two for each of its ten sports: beach volleyball, snowboard cross, badminton, basketball, curling, figure skating, archery, super cross, soccer, and kart racing. The box art is also there. And here’s some truly great news for those of you looking to pick this game up in five weeks: Deca Sports will sell for the low, low price of $29.99! Ten games for 40% less than the price of a full Wii game? Sounds like a hell of a deal to me.

Hudson Entertainment's DECA SPORTS™ Goes Gold Exclusive For Wii™ at $29.99 SRP

DECA SPORTS™ also includes advanced controls for power spikes, curls, and mid air tricks for the gamer! All ten sports support both single player and multiplayer modes. And, what would a competition be without awards? The Locker Room feature allows players to keep track of their medals and trophies.

The wide range of events and modes make DECA SPORTS™ the perfect game for players and sports fans of all ages. DECA SPORTS™ has been rated E (Everyone) by the ESRB.

Hey Samit! I enjoyed throwing grenades at you last night!

Anyway, I've actually heard this game has a few sports that beat Wii Sports in terms of fun. Still, $30 is a lot for a game that, visually, reminds me of Wii Sports, a free game. Also, it's all minigames.

But maybe......

I'll probably wait till it's 20 bucks. At that point, why not?

When it gets cheaper I'll pick it up but I'm surprised, I didn't expect it to sell that well (even though it techincally hasn't sold any yet).

Curling could be fun with the Wii... or just freaking ridiculous. As long as the controls aren't too complicated like some of the Mario/Sonic Olympics, I'll get it.

Good grief I want this. I've wanted it since I first heard about it. If this can be a proper sports compilation and not juat crap mini games then I am in there day 1.

Are sales figures based on preorders, or the amount that retailers order prior to release??

I know in a lot of music charts, its based on the retailers, which is why the charts are artificially aimed at the cds every music store has a couple of hundred of.

Wouldnt retailers be falling over themselves to get copies of this?? It should sell like hotcakes.

Don't think Hudson will get it right, I'll wait till reviews are all over the internet.

The low price point makes it more enticing, but I'm still not interested in the game itself.

Well, it certainly beats the button mashing of Konami's "Track & Field" arcade game. I'm skeptical, though. I'm so fed up with mini-games on the Wii. Thankfully, "No More Heroes" and SSBB counter-balances that.

$20 would have been a tempting impulse buy... Now it's a wait and see how reviews are.

My girlfriend will probably buy this. She actually really enjoys WiiSports and plays it more than anything else I own.
