Wii owners can't seem to get enough Resident Evil

The Resident Evil series is still going strong, as Capcom announced today that another of its Wii titles has shipped over 1 million units worldwide. The game in question? Why it's none other than Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

With the help of fairly recent hits such as The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (the other Capcom Wii game to ship over a million units), the zombie-infested franchise has sold more than 34.5 million units globally since its inception.

With all of this success, do you think we'll ever see a completely new (not a GameCube port) Resident Evil for Wii that's built from the ground up to fully utilize the system's unique capabilities, while at the same time not being a House of the Dead clone?

I bet its entirely possible to see some RE4 esq game hit the Wii thats new. Maybe a sidestory of RE5?
Spykron's Avatar
im not sure how they could make a new resident evil take advantage of the Wii better than RE4 did as a port. but then again i dont get paid by capcom so i didnt think about it for too long.

Still havent't played RE:UC...gotta get on that

The Wii is made for games like this and that's why.

RE:UC massively pissed me off. It seems that everytime they try to flesh out the story, they make it even more confusing.

Please Capcom, stop making all these wiimakes and rehashes and just focus on RE:5 damnit!
Riser Glen's Avatar
I would like to see a RE4-like version of RE2.
Rockvillian's Avatar
I would like to see Riser Glen's wish come true.

And also an entirely new RE for the Wii, ground up, with smart controls.
Fat Ryu's Avatar
I don't have a wii, but if i did i would like to know i could get this classic series for it. They should also do Dino Crisis 2 coz that was excellent.
CaptainApocalypse's Avatar
I want a WiiWare game called "RE: Zombie Stabber". You stab zombies with the Wiimote.
aborto thefetus's Avatar
Everbody would want to see Riser's wish come true. RE:2 is one of the high points of the series and is arguably the best old school RE (personally, I think RE:3 was the best before RE:4).

It's true..can't get enough Raccoon city..why'd they nuke it!

Umbrella Chronicles shouldn't have been the million seller; Zack & Wiki should have. ~sniffle~

I really don't think they will bother with an all new RE for the Wii. But yeah, RE2 remake plz.

Resident Wiivil?
CypherVR's Avatar
the idea for a RE2 remake was floating around but it was dashed due to the fact that the visuals of RE2 look nice anyway compaired to the visuals of RE(PS1) :/
Cheeburga's Avatar
Riser, that is an amazing idea.
pedrovay2003's Avatar
Honestly, I'd love to see RE5 come to the Wii. It obviously wouldn't look as good, and it wouldn't be able to have as many enemies on the screen at once, but the controls in 4 alone make me want to dream a little.

As for a new RE game specifically for the Wii, I'm all for it. Umbrella Chronicles was cool, but it didn't feel like RE to me.
CypherVR's Avatar
BTW- the RE:0 port to wii (JP only) is pretty meaningless, tacking on wii-controls

i'd like to add that, i too would like a revamped version of RE2 and RE3. But RE2 mostly :)

i have the RE2 PS1(dual-shock ver) and GC versions

How about the next Z&W game sells a million, due to fans of the first. And Capcom did report Z&W sold about 300k, which is a high amount for a non-franchise game with little marketing.

I don't see why they're porting 0 to the Wii. I don't even understand how they're going to make it work with the way RE4 was set up. Ah well, let's just hope that they start making original games for the wii :|
HarassmentPanda's Avatar
I think the RE games have been selling too well on the Wii to not make an original title for the system. If it utilizes the Wii controls well, it could be a truly compelling experience.

nope.

Wii needs these type of action games which no one else is delivering. Capcom should think about creating a RE Wii exclusive game (not this UC like shooter cheese), using or building upon the RE4 engine.

Considering Wii is more powerful than GC and RE sales a sky high, there honestly isn't any reason why they shouldn't take a gamble.

Perhaps they should do a side story starring Barry as the lead. I don't know, just something fresh since Wii owners won't see RE5.
Mxyzptlk's Avatar
Whatever they do, I hope they have black zombies in it so I can get out my racist aggressions virtually.
Novakaine's Avatar
Capcom won't make a good original/RE4-style game on Wii, much as I want it. Call me cynical, but I'm pretty sure their strategy is to put their premiere RE games on PS3/360, and release ports/side-stories for Wii to make up the high PS3/360 dev costs.

Like I said before, I'm positive is 80% of third-parties' line of thinking when dealing with Nintendo:
- If people don't buy the shitty ports/shovelware, obviously they only play Nintendo games. 3rd parties on Nintendos iz cursed.
- If people buy the shitty ports/shovelware, obviously we don't need to put in the effort for a "real" game. Nintendo iz for non-gamers.

ha and why stop there, zombies in sombreros, eh?
RJG's Avatar
There were hints of remakes of older games on the Wii if UC did well. The potential for an RE4 style RE2 and RE3 and CV would absolutely rock my balls.

Or, as said above, RE5 Gaiden, which would also be cool.
Lord The Night Knight's Avatar
"Or, as said above, RE5 Gaiden, which would also be cool."

Why not just RE5? Any reason OTHER than assuming we know what RE5 will be like?
Kyousuke Nanbu's Avatar
If they make RE5 for the Wii they'll have to downgrade the visuals drastically.

And the next Wii RE game will probably be another lightgun game.
BlackSunEmpire's Avatar
My girlfriend loves umbrella chronicles.

Personally I'd prefer a new RE wii edition.
Aziel13's Avatar
I could only dream of a RE5 on the wii
Sky-Face's Avatar
I agree with RJG, a complete code veronica remake, new graphics and Wii implemented controls would in fack rock my balls, my dogs balls, and probably my neighbors.
Aertyr's Avatar
Any games that are Mature that come to a typically more "friendly" console tends to be welcomed. Why not? The more "Serious" games are than their predecessors the more they sell. Who wouldn't want to play Final Fantasy : Mature Edition with blood flying everywhere and people exploding from fireballs. It adds a new level of reality and severity to the game that games typically lack.
Holyetheline's Avatar
I would love to see another RE4 type to come to Wii. Even RE5 but I don't think that will happen. RE4 is one of my favorite games ever and I've beaten it multiple times... on professional... and I've done everything else on it too. And I'll do it all again because I love it.
LarkOhiya's Avatar
Its odd to see RE get so much fan base when its really just more of the same zombie stuff every other zombie game has been about. RE4 was a great game though.
Necros's Avatar
I doubt the Wii will see anything on par with Resident Evil 5, but I'm feeling pessimistic about the Wii at the moment.
