Wii Nintendo Channel gets makeover, Nintendo Week series photo

Out of nowhere, Nintendo has announced that the free-to-download "Nintendo Channel" for the Wii will be receiving an update today.

The channel will get a new look, along with other upgrades like higher-quality streaming, a "top games" list as recommended by other viewers, and a new option to rate and recommend Nintendo DS titles.

Possibly bigger news is the addition of a brand new weekly series called Nintendo Week. The first episode features in look at Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, an interview with the devs behind Guitar Hero 5, some video of people acting like new DSi colors is exciting, and more.

You're Wii is probably flashing blue right now to let you know it's time to update. Let us know what you think.

Just give me some freaking demos and I'll be happy. I would probably buy more WiiWare games if it wasn't like jumping off a cliff and hoping the bottom is made out of pillows.

Yeah, I'll check that out. Unless my cat figures out what to do with that blue light first.

Then I'll just ask him about it.

My Wii doesn't flash blue anymore. I think it's so unloved it's going through it's emo stage and refuses to show any signs of life.

Eh it sounds like Sony's Pulse, which is a good thing. I've been annoyed that Nintendo doesn't try to connect with their fans/customers unlike Sony and MS does. They really need a public face who is not in a suit 24/7.

Also, remember the Metroid Prime 3 Teaser Channel?? Nintendo really messed up not continuing that with other games. I liked having the ability to download new channels.

@CelicaCrazed

I imagine that they don't do that for new games just because of the block space. The old Nintendo Channel used to take up around 200-300 blocks (when you include the save file)... I haven't downloaded the new one, but I imagine it'll be about the same. Personally, I'm already juggling channels to make space as it is... I'm okay without more new channels.

I hope they made the DS demos more easily accessible. That's the only reason I have this channel.

I actually got my Wii out of the closet and hooked it up to download this. The improvements are nice.

Well, I LOVE it. I still want to be able to download videos and send them to friends and all. But I doubt that will ever happen.

It is a great out of no where channel.

I love that I can add favorites, easily send reviews, and everything looks nicer.

Okay, I have since downloaded the channel, and can verify that the block size is now smaller than it used to be, the image quality on the videos are much better, and downloading DS demos is no longer buried under a menu (it's right on the bottom bar).

All in all, good job Nintendo. Not bad.

Nintendo Week was better than I expected, and the videos look way better and load quickly.

I'll check it out, the next time I have a Zelda urge, but until then... I'm not really interested, but that's nice though. Kept up the good work Nintendo, maybe you'll come back around full circle to being a game company again. Call me when you get there.

While the videos definitely look better I have a very tough time playing them in High Quality. I have a pretty good internet connection and it I don't know why it has so much trouble buffering. But I think one of the problems is that it seems like the system doesn't give itself enough time to buffer. When I pause it for a while it just starts loading again. If there were some sort of status bar that would certainly help. Otherwise its okay but I'm still hoping for that status bar.

What's a Wii?
I kid, I kid. I can't wait to get New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2!
This update seems cool... I'll check it out, thanks.
