Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort confirmed for June/July photo

It's been a long time since Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort were announced, with the belief being that we'd see both these items last year. Now Nintendo has finally confirmed a solid release date of June 8 for MotionPlus and July 26 for Resort.

If you've forgotten (it's been a long time), Wii MotionPlus is a peripheral that adds a sense of depth to the Wii's motion controls, theoretically allowing for more engaging games and enhanced interactivity. We'll see if that actually happens, though. Wii Sports Resort picks up where Wii Sports left off, being a waggle-stuffed tech demo that children and the elderly can't get enough of. There is a speedboat game, and Reggie really loves that throttle.

Hit the jump for the press release, and orgasm in unison for Nintendo's latest innovation. It's going to f*ck your face off!

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo is setting the stage for a blockbuster summer with the announcement of two hotly anticipated product releases. The new Wii MotionPlus accessory will hit U.S. retailers on June 8, taking the motion-sensing controls of the popular Wii system to new levels of precision and performance. What’s more, these control enhancements will be on vibrant display when the Wii Sports Resort game launches on July 26, offering a beach-themed follow-up to the groundbreaking Wii Sports game. Wii Sports comes packed with the Wii console. It grew into a worldwide phenomenon and continues to attract millions of new players to the world of video games. Each Wii Sports Resort game comes packed with a single Wii MotionPlus accessory.

When used with specially designed games, Wii MotionPlus tracks players’ movements in finer detail and with greater accuracy than ever before, building upon the innovative wireless function of the motion-sensing Wii Remote controller. Even the slightest twist of the wrist or turn of the body is replicated exactly on the TV screen, allowing users to become even more immersed in Wii game play. Designed for easy attachment to the Wii Remote controller, the Wii MotionPlus accessory will be offered at an MSRP of $19.99.

Wii Sports Resort takes the inclusive, fun and intuitive controls of the original Wii Sports to the next level, introducing a whole new set of entertaining and physically immersive activities. With the deep control enhancements of Wii MotionPlus, veteran Wii users and newcomers alike can enjoy unprecedented gaming precision as they cruise on a water scooter, duel with swords, throw a Frisbee® and much more. Wii Sports Resort and Wii MotionPlus will be offered together at an MSRP of $49.99.

“Wii MotionPlus represents a new evolution in video game control. The variety of fun games in Wii Sports Resort show off its incredible precision,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Developers around the world are busy working on new ways to incorporate Wii MotionPlus controls into inventive experiences for consumers.”

I can't tell whether to be excited or not. I hope, even with all the waggle fests that are sure to follow, this will help the Wii's traditional gaming third party support, though I know the odds are against that thought.

$20 bucks ain't bad for the Motion Plus. Would have liked it more if it was $15 bucks, but $20 bucks ain't bad.

Considering Ubisoft will take into account of this technology for Red Steel 2, and I love my sword fights...

$20 is way too much, you need one per controller if you plan on playing any multiplayer games that use it. It's something that should have come on the controller in the first place.

At first I thought 20 bucks is pretty good, but then I read CapnCrunk comment and hes right, you would have to buy them for all your controllers. If you had 4 thats 80 bucks thats almost 2 wiimotes, that's alot, for just an accessory, IF you buying it for all your controllers.

Nice price for both the game and the peripheral together.

But why are they releasing it without any software to make it worthy? Is like buying a PS3 without MGS4... oh.

I hope they'll utilize this in a Zelda title. I wonder how much more enjoyable Twilight Princess would have been with more responsive swordfights.

I'd guess motion+ would be most enjoyable in single player and/or in 2 player modes. Any more then that and it'd be almost too frantic to notice..I suppose?

Who'd knew that motion technology would make tons of money?!

Yeah $20 seems about right. I mean most adds-on to the Wiimote equal $20, so I guess I just assumed that it would be $20 all along now, so no big surprise here. Plus it comes with the Wii Sports Resort, so you automatically get one right there.

Hopefully in the near future they announce that its also available built into a new version of the Wiimote. Where you won't need this add-on for the new versions, and they start packing them in with the system, and with WiiPlay, and maybe even with a new game later on. Either way it all seems fine!

The cynic in me is surprised they didn't charge the motion plus accessory for $30. I'm trying to debate whether or not this is a worthwhile purchase. I actually really liked Wii Sports, and could see this being worthwhile, but I also don't want to fall for another add-on that no one will support either.

Does this mean I'll need all new Wiimote condoms?

No one remembers the power glove. Which is what this Wii essentially is.

My concern is Battery Life. The Wii eats these things.

I'm excited for this, personally. If it really does work as well as they say (and according to EA and their need to tone down the sensitivity, it does), then I'll look forward to some really good games that utilize this. Hopefully future remotes will have this thing built in.

I love that some people thought it'd cost $10. Me being right doesn't take the sting away from the fact that it'll cost at least $25 in Canada though

The better marketing move would have been to wait on this tech till the HD Wii comes out. This is just confusing as hell for the consumer.

I might be getting this. It'll be fun, but I'll just get one for myself. I'll wait till there are deals within stores to get extra +'s. But still, this should have been the original design, and I don't see how Nintendo could have messed that up. They may not be a strong hardcore company anymore (just confirming a new DS Zelda game is not going to give me faith in the out-of-touch N), but they sure do know how to milk a good or a bad thing for the most profit
