Wii lightsaber game revealed, and dreams get crushed photo

If you remember  just the other week, the Internet was full of chatter regarding the statement from Jim Ward of LucasArts that they were already having a blast with the prototype of a Wii lightsaber game they had a chance to play. If you also recall, we were a bit hesitant to get too excited about it, since we knew they could very well be talking about the upcoming LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga game.

Sadly, this looks to be the case. Dashed are the short-term hopes of Star Wars fans everywhere. The LEGO Star Wars games are great, and you'll never hear me say otherwise. However, saying that we wanted a new Star Wars game a little bit more like what we've seen in Force Unleashed, and a little bit less than LEGO Star Wars is one of the great understatements of the century.

This doesn't mean that such a game isn't in the works, but it doesn't look to be soon -- unless LucasArts sucker punches us at E3 with something that states otherwise. The good news is that you'll still be able to waggle that Wiimote and enjoy a little lightsaber action on your Nintendo console. The bad news is that much like when Link from the Zelda games went all cell-shaded on us --  the end product might have ended up great, but we all couldn't help but wonder about what might've been.

Misleading title much? Or do you have actual confirmation that deep inside the Lucas Art vaults, the game Jim Ward was talking about was Lego Star Wars?

Cause you know, it's kind of hard to have a "prototype of a Wii lightsaber game they were working on." that isn't developed by Lucas Arts, but by Traveller's Tales.

hopefully they will use lego star wars to develop the basics of Wii lightsaber gameplay then upgrade it for a real star wars game.

It's pretty much certain this is the game Jim Ward was talking about for Fall, but we'll still get the lightsaber game we're really looking for eventually.

Gamespy has a preview of the Wii version, and they enjoyed it quite a bit. I've played both on the PC, but I'll probably still get this on Wii for when the kiddo is a bit older.

I'm sure a real lightsaber game built from the ground up is in the works for the Wii. No crushed dreams here.

I'm not worried. Something will happen with the whole Wiisaber thing eventually. It's too perfect and the Wii is selling too well for LucaArts to pass it up.

is this really tat freakin important? Lucas Arts themselves, have shown nearly nothing for nintendo consoles in the last decade. There is no reason to see that they would change their tune now. in instead of a lightsaber game, lets see some better ideas come up now. maybe no more heros might have some cool stuff, but this is foolish to expect anything from lucas arts.

plus, they wont give me a sequel to Gladius, so they can go suck it.

The Wii disapoints again......

...and again, and again, and again, and again...

And people still want a Wii? Lame.

Wait...

How...

Okay, let me step through this nice and slow... see if I can get a handle on it...

So... a Lego Star Wars game is coming out for the Wii, obviously not made by Nintendo...

...and this is somehow cause for bashing the Wii simply because this particular game isn't the big "lightsaber game" that everyone has their panties in a bunch about?

Yeah, you really fucked up with that one, Nintendo. You should have forced LucasArts to make their "lightsaber game", like, RIGHT NOW. This Lego Star Wars bullshit obviously doesn't cut it, Nintendo. How can you possibly keep sucking so bad, Nintendo? Your console isn't worth shit because it doesn't have a third-party "lightsaber game" yet, Nintendo.

Jesus Christ, people.

Not that I was looking forward to a Wii lightsaber game. But man, I can't begin to imagine the pain you SW fans must be in today

Remember when we all looked at the Wiimote and dreamed of all the amazing things developers were going to be able to do with the Wiimote?

WTF happened? we have gotten shit so far with absolutley NOTHING too look forward as far as innovation. I want to be mad at Nintendo because I sat in a line for 29 hours on launch only to get paltry 2 weeks of gaming out of it. But its the devs that are failing us, but hey, us gamers don't matter anymore, the kids eat this shit up. because after all, the Wii really is a kiddie console, right?

Dragon Quest Swords'll scratch that itch, assuming Squeenix decides to send it west. And if they don't...

...

Well...

...

I'll just be very sad, I guess.

No problem. Just release it as a cheap minigame. Nintendo people love that.

At least that way people would have the opportunity to see firsthand that the concept wouldn't work as well as it sounds.

What is this about? We did find out what "might've been." It was called Twilight Princess and it was a hollow shell of what The Wind Waker was.

Hmm.. Some comments: Fuck Nintendo haters, you guys can get a knife and shove it up your ass.. And Lego Star Wars III, I dont want to type it all, isn't just a port. Read a preview and you'll know what I'm saying. It's alot more use the force and new levels then ooohh!! I control my Lego with a Wiisaber. No. Not a port at all.

Seriously, Wii can't disappoint at less than half the price of the competition.
It does need more games and less minigames, but hey, compared to the gamecube, it's doing great!!!
And compared to everything else for that matter.
The little crybabies who are disappointed can just shut the fuck up.
If Lair got delayed, you fucking So-need-a-life fanboys would say some stupid shit like "Great! More time to make it Better!"
or something like that.
But no, when it's the Wii, or the 360, you just gotta hate.
Fuck you. Keep your P.O.S.3 and don't forget it's the 3rd rendition of shit, not the first and portable, not even the 2nd, but the 3rd piece of shit you bought from Sony. Or should I say Phony.
