So what if today's Virtual Console releases bored our staff so much it actually put most of them to sleep? Which is why we didn't bother reporting on it, like some other sites. In case you're wondering, they were Space Harrier II, Ten--ZzZzZzZ ...
According to Nintendo's official Wii site, starting on December 20th, Wii users will actually be able to take advantage of the Weather Channel. Now they'll know whether or not to put on pants before they leave the house. Which is an issue for some people, believe me.
But it doesn't stop there, because on January 27th the News Channel will be live. No word on when the Internet Channel hits, but if we're dating things as far out as January and it's still "Coming Soon," it looks like we might waiting longer than we had anticipated.
[Update: It appears that the Wii Forecast channel has gone live in PAL regions. The rest of the world are encouraged to leave their house to see what the weather is like outside.]
[Update 2: The Forecast channel should be available in most regions now.]
Can't wait for it to hit stateside!
23rd begins Beta of the Opera brower and the official version begins in march or april and you have till june for a free download.
GO OUTSIDE? ARE YOU MAD?
I'm a gamer! I fear non-circulated air and that bright shiny thing in the sky...I believe you non-gamers call it the Death Star or something.
I hadn't heard that -- source?
Wake me up when contra or punchout, or even a fking super mario bros is released. The fact that a person with a PS3 with linux installed could be playing the entire library (albeit illegally) of NES and SNES games is quite a blunder.
I physically couldn't resist typing that.
PS: Donkey Kong Country is SO overrated. Go back and play it again. Doesn't hold up.
Same with me. :(
I was a little surprised at how few cities were on it in other countries, but that's obviously just to cut down on bandwith since it's just best to feed me US cities instead.
My new favorite game is spinning the globe ala Google Earth and seeing which island has better weather Jesus Lives (Christmas Island) or Jesus Dies (Easter Island).
Jesus Lives is up by 5.
And your South Pole forecast for the day:
Current: 1
Today: 7
So in conclusion, it's cool. I mean... I'll play with it. Not awesome, not horrible.
That aside people bitching about the VC games probably wouldn't be happy with anything they release because they're not big retro fans. Which is cool, hey, not everyone likes everything... but you can't tell me that:
A- You're a fan of old school games and,
B- You have no interest in Military Madness, Alien Crush, Gunstar Heros, PuyoPuyo (Dr. Robotnics Magic Pants in the US) and Bonk.
The TG16 games they've released are absolute classics. As far as the NES games are concerned, what games are they going to release that are popular enough to warrant a download BUT not a title that everyone's played to death?
I'm all for the Super Mario Bros but after that, what?
Some other things I noticed:
The weather channel is stored on the section of the flash memory dedicated to Mii, messages, and other system internals. This means that the number of blocks you have available for saving games and downloading VC titles remains unchanged after downloading the weather channel.
If you press the home button while viewing the actual channel (you have to have the actual weather program running, not just be viewing the current stats from the Channels menu), you can view an "operations guide" that explains how to use the weather channel.
