Wii Fit to retail for $89.99 in America? photo

An image taken from a GameStop internal price list has been making the rounds revealing the price of Wii Fit to be $89.99. GameStop is also asking for $10 deposit on the game. All signs point to this being true, but until Nintendo confirms this, it's Rumortoid for now.

I actually had a lot of fun when I played Wii Fit during GDC so I know I will eventually get this but $90 sounds way too much. Especially since the game debuted in Japan for around $70. One would think that the game would become cheaper after all this time. Unless they went ahead and designed a newer model of the Balance Board for the American audience. You know, because everyone here is obese.

Gad you can tell thats the main audience that will be playing the Wii-fat... erm fit. Half-dead cripples and Solar allergic kids. I guess those are the new age of hardcore gamers...

According to the Wiki, it takes 330 lbs as opposed to 300 for the Japanese one. Not saying that justifies the retarded price, but the people who would buy this never bought a game for the Wii anyways, so what would they know?

Back in the day, I bought a hard plastic dance pad for DDR (I know, I'm a geek, shut up), and I broke it, despite being under the weight limit of 220 pounds. So yeah, maybe since we Americans weigh like 1.5 times as much as the average Japanese person, they needed to build a sturdier version of the balance board.

Still, it doesn't seem like that would add to the cost that much. They probably just think that we're bigger suckers than the Japanese.

I think of $90 for the Wii Blance Board and the game, and I compare it to the Wii Guitar Hero Plastic Shell with a game; all of a sudden, $90 doesn't sound so bad.

Also, the game debuted in Japan for about $80.

We bought a tredmill and don't use it.

We'll buy the Balance Board and not use it.

I bought the E-Reader for christ sake. I don't like the price point but fact remains, I'll probably pony it up for god knows why and they'll never put another thing out for it.

$89.99? That sounds like a sweet deal considering that in the UK it's going to cost £70

£70 = $139.16

So consider yourselves lucky! so much for getting it a month before the US, if us Brits want it then we got to save up doing that month head start before we can even buy the damn thing!

Come on fatasses, get on the board!

You know, the $20 difference probably accounts for having to enforce the board so it can handle all the obese folks of America. The Japanese are much smaller in general, so the board probably needed to be strengthened a bit.

Me, I'm not buying this. I'd rather buy 2 games for the price of this 1.

Hmm maybe they will be a ton on ebay 5 days after it comes out.

Price sounds right to me. Nintendo makes good quality hardware that's durable and lasts. How much Guitar Hero with a controller cost? How much does the Dual Shock 3 cost? Now add a "game" to that (or whatever the shitty software should be called).

Hopefully, someone will think of something clever to do with this peripheral though. How about a snowboarding game?

Americans don't spend millions upon millions on the next get in shape quick device do they? The fatties and parents looking to get their fatties more excercise will eat this shit up, it will be used a few times then sit in the bottom of their closet.

Careful marketing, and high availability will guarantee this will sell enough to give the more serious gamers another ulcer.

Look, I've been LOVING Rock Band but I can't believe people are scoffing at a $90 game/peripheral and not at a $170(!!) game/peripheral. Especially since in all likelyhood the balance board will be used with several games and the Rock Band drum kit et al will be used for... Rock Band. Maybe guitar hero too.

Yeah, except Rock band comes with 3 peripherals and a bad-ass game. Besides all of that, how can anyone justify and compare a glorified balance board with any music game peripheral period?

That and you'll be EXTREMELY lucky to get any other game made for this thing that isn't a novelty. Don't ever buy a peripheral for anything other than the game it was made for or else you will get burned.

Oh man. This shit boggles the mind. Fucking Wii Fit boggles the mind.

Good point, actually had to buy the other bits, forgot about that. I'm not saying (EVER REMOTELY) that Wii Fit seems like it will be as amazingly fun as Rock Band. It looks like a pretty fun game, mixed with a 'just distract you enough' excerize regimen. However, I do find the vitriol spouted at it a little amusing though. Looks fun to me as I've said; then again I don't pretend to not like Wii Sports anymore either. All the 'hardkore gamerz' loved that shit until grandma and little sis got in on the action...

Evidently, not getting the Wii or Wii-related stuff..or it "boggling your mind" makes you cool around here, instead of just stupid.

Did you miss the last few years with Brain Age with its edutainment style and progress tracking was huge? Can you not see this is just the phys ed class version and is likely to be just as huge?

It's not rocket science, seriously. Obviously Nintendo has literally blown some hardcore gamer minds..because they aren't functioning. :)

Next you'll be surprised at well-crafted but often uninspired Nintendo franchise entries selling well...jfc.
