Hey Flabby McFlabtown! Nintendo have announced details for this Summer's launch of their new interactive fitness game, Wii Fit! The game will ship bundled with the Wii Balance Board peripheral, and will be available at the Nintendo World store in New York City starting on May 19 for $89.99. Nintendo have also revealed a special pre-order incentive program as well, offering the first 1,000 consumers who put down a $5 deposit a limited edition Wii Fit t-shirt. This one-of-a-thousand shirt features the image and reproduced autograph of Shigeru Miyamoto, so it's sure to be quite the collector's item. And what do you do when you lose all of that weight playing Wii Fit and the shirt no longer fits you? Use it as a dust rag. It should be noted that the press release (found after the jump) makes no mention of Wii Fit appearing at retail other than the Nintendo World store. I'm also no longer seeing a listing for it at GameStop.com, so my suspicions have been aroused. I've contacted Nintendo for clarification, so in the meantime, keep trying to do those one-handed push-ups in preparation of the game's release. [Update: According to Nintendo Wii Fit will indeed be available everywhere Wii products are sold. The pre-order bonus, however, will be exclusive to the Nintendo World store. The listing for Wii Fit has been added to GameStop.com (as well as other retaliers), and confirms that the game will be available on the May 22, three days after its Nintendo World store launch.]

not bad when compared to 3-4 months at a gym :-)
i think the balance board could be used for amazing things, but i don't think it'll get into enough homes to make it worth exploring. i ain't buyin this thing to do yoga.
Maybe, Nintendo wants to test the market and see how the public reacts to the price before going nationwide with the release. I mean that price point does not scream out to Wii owners, Buy me!
@ power-glove:
Of course, I wouldn't doubt it. I know that GameStop has been taking pre-orders (aggressively, with marketing and all), and as of this morning, they still are. I'm still waiting to hear back from Nintendo about this. I can't find a listing for the game at any of the major online retailers (save for Amazon, who also aren't taking orders yet).
I'm semi-interested in Wii Fit, mostly due to that some of the mini-games included look pretty fun, and the potential for the balance board is also appealing.
Then again, through this standpoint, if no one taps that potential, then it's just wasted money. I'd like to see where the price point goes, since for some reason I can justify putting down the kind of money for a plastic guitar controller, than an actual balance board.
...no way. No way Nintendo would limit the availability of Wii Fit. Seriously? That would seem a little...crazy. Like, super fucking batshit-insane crazy.
Im starting to hate Nintendo. They are fucking up the idustry with these stupid add-ons.
Jesus Christ, people. Put your hands on the floor and PUSH, for fuck sake! It's not that hard.
I just keep lol'ing and lol'ing at the notion that people actually think this will lose them some amount of weight. You'd have to do it for hours before you actually got any results you couldn't get by walking up a fight of stairs.
I just keep lol'ing and lol'ing at the notion that Nintendo are somehow "fucking" up the industry.
Why do you care about misguided people who think that Wii Fit, by itself, can lose them tons of weight?
Assuming those people exist, they are being stupid...but who cares.
It's a home exercise tool and a BMI weight tracker over time...as well as a collection of minigames. Certainly people will be interested in those functions? Not really hard to understand. It's Brain Age..except for your Ass!
You can keep your unitasker, Nintendo. The Wiimote was decent, but you're getting cocky.
I love the UK.. I love it so much, I'm happy to pay %150 the cost of the US version of the same thing.
It better have a lot more usability than a very expensive yoga mat, and the odd "leaning" game.
Yep. I'm officially never buying this thing.
I just put a pre-order in at Game Stop yesterday so they better be getting it.
I don't watch much TV; is Nintendo actually advertising this thing?
It is an interesting idea, but I just don't see myself paying $90 to find out.
WiiFit wasn't really created to make you lose weight. It is more of a motivational tool to help promote a health lifestyle.
90 bucks for this?

90 bucks for this?
I think we can all agree about the lame-ness of this concept, but people need to stop complaining about the price of peripherals. A Dual Shock 3 is $50-$60. This is essentially a new, unique controller that will require special manufacturing + a game. The price point makes some sense. Yes, it's likely a lame game. No, I wouldn't pay $90 for it. But I wouldn't pay anything for it, because I don't want it. Therefore, price = irrelevant.
NO THX
I saw the cast of Good Morning America play something on these today. I still don't know what to make of it.

Meanwhile, the up-in-flames Xbox 360 (my brother just got the RROD on his second unit) is taking the industry to brilliant new heights! LOL.
Your constant Nintenhate grows tiresome. Just accept the fact Nintendo owns this generation so we can all move on.
Someone, Stop the innovation!
I really wish I could hear what some of you would have said when Nintendo launched their D-pad, no doubt you would have used the joystick as an example of why the D-pad is lame and cheap and pointless.
I know that's a bit of a contrived example and this balance board is not going to set the gaming world on fire, but anyone at all interested in human interface design appreciates the balance board as a complex piece of hardware cleverly disguised as a family friendly healthy lifestyle accessory. When will people understand that making cutting edge technology is not the hard part, it's trying to introduce something new to the masses which is difficult. Nintendo are the masters at doing this.
This is just gay. Who is actually buying this because they want it and not because they want the most worthless bragging rights on earth? Exercise? Excuse me while I chug some Dew and eat chips in my underoos.
the wife is into it, i'm moderately amused by it. probably going to buy it.
the way i see it, it's either pay a ton for a gym membership that probably won't go to use, or $90 to be able to have an entertaining way to track fitness progress in my living room.
I'm interested, depending on what other games are coming out around that time, I'll either get it the week it comes out or once it price drops.
Think Unreal Tournament for Wii: controlling player movement on the hoverboard with the Wii Fit and aiming/shooting with the Wiimote. Ooooh baby.
Now *there's* tomorrow's gaming - today.
Hmm.. i'll stick to my normal routines which i do on a 10 quid weighing scale and the grassy fields outside for.. wait for it, waitt for it.. FREE!!!!
$89.99? Hahahaha, no.
There is no way I'm paying $90 for a balance board, and I'm sure a lot of casual gamers will feel the same way.
