Wife forces man to choose between her and an Orc photo

A husband has been forced to make the ultimate compromise -- his wife, or his six-foot-tall World of Warcraft Orc statue. For years, 42-year-old Robert Cushnie was living the ultimate dream, sharing his home with both his woman and his greenskin. However, that dream (the same dream we've all had) was shattered when his Canadian wife threw down an ultimatum.

The choice was simple but heartwrending -- live with the Orc forever, or watch her return to Canada without him. Cushnie, amazingly, summoned the courage to part with the statue, and had to put it up for adoption.

"It came down to the wife or the Orc," says Cushnie. "She said there wasn't any room for him in our life. I've had him for six years but Dee means more to me, so he had to go."

Dee, for her part, said the Orc "towered" over her 5'3 frame, and that it was "creepy." The Orc has found a new home with Michael and Patrica Thomson in Aberdeen.

Any woman who makes a man choose between her and an Orc is a bitch, by the way.

Man we are really trying to run Bigmoose85 out this morning.

Beyond DToid reporting this non-news why do the sources, newspapers and local news stations, report these things?

Let me tell you about something, Xzyliac, as you apparently haven't picked up a newspaper in a while. Many people read those formats because of these things called "human interest stories". They aren't interesting because they are important or even to the reader, they're interesting people they're interesting things about other people. It's added because without such things, the news gets to be dry boring to many people, which is why anybody who says "this is newsworthy?" is a complete, insufferable douche.

Don't be that douche.

Fair enough.

I've never been a member of the "This isn't news," crowd. But I thought it was a legit question and it got a legit answer. I quite like these odd stories. They're why I like this site. I just thought if you can question the messenger why not question the source.

An ultimatum (even one concerning an orc)is a sure sign that a relationship is in a bad fucking way.

After hearing that, I would have dressed myself up as a duplicate of the statue, wait until she returns, then scare the shit out of her when she approached it. Chasing her around is required.

When a woman makes an ultimatum, it usually means your relationship is already in trouble. Sometimes they do it just to be a bitch and get back at your for somethhing you did which prolly happened several years ago, usually something you had no idea you did anyway. Or sometimes shes just trying to see where your heart is, trying to see if you have the balls to stand up to her idle yet seemingly ruthless threats. If you are one to back down, you sir have no balls!

She is probably gonna leave him regardless. Nobody gives a shit that much about a freaking statue where you would leave them over it. This is an obvious relationship power play.

I'm not a big fan of Orc statues, so if I had one, I'd be looking to unload it anyway. However, if my girlfriend/wife gave me an ultimatum, I'd feel duty-bound to at least get something in return. Its not about the Orc, its about the precedent. She made him give up a cherished item with a threat, he has no power in that relationship anymore. You need to at least say, "Fine, I'll get rid of the Orc, but in return you need to (whatever)." It doesn't even need to be anything special you get in return, just something.

I'd let him keep the Orc... in the garage, in a back corner of the garden hidden by a tree... in the attic - but not in the house.
When a couple creates a home together it has to reflect both their tastes. It's not unusual for men to have to give up their Star Wars collection or whatever it is they have... and put it away or confine it to an unused room. It's not unusual for women to have to give up a stuffed animal collection or collection of pink ceramic pigs. It's simply compromise and it's the basis for most decent marriages.
... and yeah, a 6' tall Orc is pretty creepy (though it would probably look fabulous in a garden!)

I'd take the orc. They don't whine as much, they don't obsess over their looks, and you don't have to pamper their self esteem. Plus, if you see somebody you don't like all you have to do is point at them and your orc friend will pummel them into a gory, twitching pulp.

Xzyliac is right. Let's not judge the lady too harshly. We'd have to see pics of both her and the statue before we could make a qualified judgment on this.

I don't see much lady hate here at all. Ultimatums are when the relationship is already on it's way out or it will be. There is this thing called compromise. Compromise = lady. Ultimatum = bitch.

Should have kept the Orc.

In every couple's dwelling there needs to be a room for the man's countless D&D manuals, anime wallscrolls and miniatures, video game hardware... and orc statues. The fact that the lady didn't suggest to move the statue in another room and throw such a rare and valuable item out of the house shows just how unwilling to compromise she actually is. Maybe the "ultimatum" thing is a journalist's exageration, though, and perhaps the whole story was sensationalized a bit...

Anyone trying to give me an ultimatum in a relationship can leave. I don't care what it's about. If you can't live with the person you're living with, as they are, then it's time to move on. Trying to change people into whatever form factor you want is just stupid. This has nothing to do with the fact that it's some six foot tall orc. Which is why this is once again poor journalism, as the debate really has nothing to do with what object they're arguing over, yet there was so much emphasis put on that, obviously for some sort of comedic effect. Although just one mention of it would have been funny. Not really sure why we need the jokes crammed down our throat, but that's another subject and is just a basic critique of Destructoid in general.

Does anyone here know if a compromise was given and the man was thickheaded (as men often are) and didn't move his ass to meet the compromise until she finally got sick of it?

Or she confronted him about it without any ultimatum or compromise and all he did was bitch.

There is no power struggle. Nobody here can say that. You all have this picture in your head of a demanding skank because she doesn't want a fucking Orc in her house like none of you guys have ever asked your girlfriend to do anything.

And plus all the stuff that Elsa said. Sorry but a relationship and living together is not a one sided thing. Women make just as much changes as men and if you don't agree with that you're just frankly mistaken if you really don't see that.

There's a time when you grow up. If you think you have her or this relationship figured out based on the fact that she's weirded out by a Orc (I know I would be) you're just being sad. Luckily it seems Cushnie is enough of his age to value his wife over his shit.

What Xzyliac said. If I had something that awkward and weird sitting anywhere in our house, my wife would have every right to ask me to get rid of it. And if she had a 6' tall unicorn grazing in the living room I'd ask her to remove it just the same. There really isn't a compromise to be found here. No tit for tat. It's a 6' tall fucking statue. His wife's happiness should be more important to him.
