While the iPhone and iPod Touch excel at slower paced, touchscreen-based puzzle games, the lack of buttons makes you wonder why anyone would even bother with game emulation for the platform. I guess a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator could be something fun to have on your iPhone, but I wouldn't expect too much from a PlayStation emulator.
If you just have to have PlayStation emulation on your iPhone/iPod Touch, you can try the newly released psx4iphone emulator, currently at version 0.1.0. The installation is a bit of an undertaking, but when it's done you'll get to play your favorite PSX titles in miniature. With no buttons.
This is pretty cool as a proof of concept, but the devices aren't cut out for gaming goodness. The framerates are very low for most games, and analog control just isn't going to happen. These devices are large enough to fit some disc images, but that would cut into to their video/audio storage room.
I'd say save yourself the headache. Get a PSP instead.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

.... Yeah, I hate them too.
I just... don't see the point in this. It's tiny and it has no real buttons. Just the touch screen.
Um. Bully for them I guess... I'd rather play with a real controller type thing.
Honestly - gentlemen, and lady developers - i phone ds would be pretty insane... actually .. maybe it wouldnt work so well
you know, i'll just be smart and stay at home with my PS2.
Oh, wait...I commented on the wrong story.
I also have a touch and will say beyond a shadow of a doubt that the emulators are not even remotely close to "fine" - they are truly horrendous in every sense of the word.
There is absolutely no good reason for trying this kind of emulation on the touch - in fact, the only reason to do it is "Because we can" - a shit reason for anything.
So psx4iphone IS working, why would I bother using the extra cash for a psp...
"why anyone would even bother with game emulation for the platform?"
This should be obvious, but I like the idea of having a portable PSX not psp.
