Why Magnacarta 2 took 10,000 years to develop photo

I was incredibly hyped for the original Magna Carta, but those that played it told me to save my money because it was rubbish, and thus I never played it. That was many, many years ago, and it's taken Namco Bandai all that time to announce a new one. Why is this? Apparently because it's very different from that "rubbish" game I saved my money on.

"It’s been about four years and eight months since the announcement of beginning development on this project," explains production manager Yoshihisa Kanesaka. "One of the biggest reasons as to why it took so long to develop this game is we wanted to build a new battle system from the ground up. This game has a completely new battle system.

"The second reason is the illustrator, Kim Hyung Tae, wanted to make sure the models that were developed very closely match his illustrations drafted for the character design. We put a lot of energy into these two things from the ground up which is why it took so long."

Magnacarta 2 will be a very different game from the last one, set on an entirely new world with fresh characters and a revamped art style. However, the story will focus on themes of "sacrifice, love and destiny." So, it'll still be very much like every other JRPG out there in terms of plot. We'll see whether this game can rise above the tropes and clichés of the genre, or whether money will have to be saved again in future.

My curiosity. It has been piqued.

I didn't hate the original as much as the gaming-public at large did. I actually found it to be different and refreshing (terrible opening song aside). That said, the changes are still welcome. I'm a tremendous fan of Hyung Tae Kim's art, and his style contributed to making the first game one of the most attractive titles on the PS2. I can't wait to check the new one out.
I verymuch prefer when RPGs take this long between installments. It's much nicer than a new "Tales of . . ." game be announced on every full moon. My wallet weeps when that happens.

@Mr Gilder: Hahaha, my wallet weeps when new Tales of games are announced but it also makes me really happy. xD Then again, it isn't like the Tales team doesn't take their time in making games for the fact they have different teams working on different games. :]

A new battle system, huh? I'm hoping it's better than the first one. Then again, I can't pass too much judgment because I didn't play the first one so much (playing it right now) but it was hell of confusing when they were teaching me about how to battle lol.

Okay, it's bugging me so I have to ask... is there a reason why the title of this game has been combined into a single compound word instead of remaining as two distinct words like the last one?

Oh god. Magna Carta was one of the worst RPGs I've ever played. It was so pretty looking from the art, but the game was so weird and terrible.

Don't take my word for it though. Go buy a copy and see.

Hopefully this one will actually be better.

It's cause the Xbox 360 architecture sucks to develop for. Clearly they are not trying to match Final Fantasy graphics, so thats the only excuse left.

Don't you mean KRPG?

It's a shame that the art was the best part of the game. If I see some visa on a good battle system and a decent story, I'm game.

That's interesting. I thought that the idea of the battle system was actually interesting. It got repetitive, but i wonder if they'll keep the idea. otherwise, that game was a steaming pile to me.

Is this a Korean game or Japanese or both? Not that it matters, Korean games for the most part are Japanese rip offs of other countries (Cart Rider = Mario cart....Special Forces = Counter Strike) but since they're the 'little guy' developing in East Asia I just think they should get respect if it's due.

Thing is the production Manager is Yoshihisa Kanesaka, sounds pretty Japanese to me, but the illustrator is Kim Hyung Tae, a Korean name.

HHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.....

@Los255, I really could say that about almost any JRPG that has come out in the last two or three years. But I did enjoy some of Lost Odyssey. But other than that, I do say that about almost every other JRPG in the last few years.

Nothing wrong with a japanese/korean made game. I love Hyung's artwork, and if this is good I'll check this out.

I've seen the trailers...the models don't really look like Tae Kim's art...they also look awful. so I don't see how he can make that statement and sound accurate
