Kotaku has stumbled on some really hot footage of ... something. I'm kind of pushing for Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2, now that they've put the thought into my head.

Watch on (not in full screen, or you'll get motion sickness) as a Jade-looking woman runs down corridors, takes tight corners, jumps over a dude on the crapper, avoids gunfire, scales buildings, and then takes off in an escape copter, only to be tailed by a half dozen others. All of it is visually stunning.

But is this really the sequel to the GameCube/PS2 sleeper hit? Kotaku points out that the character is dressed much like she was in a 2008 announcement teaser. While that's not proof, it gives me a bit of hope.

Whatever it is, it looks fantastic. It kind of reminds of Mirror's Edge, and has a touch of the Bourne series worked in too. I want it to be BG&E2, but even if it's not, this is still something I need to play.

Proof of concept video looks cool. No way anyone could play that, though.

Not without a totally different camera and some sort of HUD.

That said, it could even be a replay of a playthru of a mission with a dev-edited camera...but looks mostly like a concept video

That video is fantastic and I am really pumped for the sequel. I just hope they don't omit a lot of the flavor/character/quirkiness of the first one, I had so much fun with it.

It's 1000000% Beyond Good & Evil 2 because at 00:12 you can hear Jade's voice going "HA!" in the same way she did in BGE1. This game is going to be fucking awesome!

It's totally gameplay footage and not a proof of concept - look at how a lot of the animations repeat a few times, like Jade's running and hopping to the left/right.

That looked cool despite the fact I never got around to playing the first one.

Yeah, this is definitely it. And this inspires me to get a copy of the first one. I've heard great things, but never could until I realized it actually is on Steam (I think it is anyhow).

Mmmmm, lovely.

I can see it being scripted (as in, not real-time gameplay) but why not in-engine?

In Prince of Persia one of the costumes for Elika is Jade's costume which looks alot like the one in the trailer. Also the engines for most of ubisoft's recent games are based on the scimiter engine from assasin's creed. The trailer is probably prerendered however I am 100% sure the final product will be more or less the same but with a different camera.

Looks like it'll be fun. I'm not sure if I like the people-looking alpha section officers though (if that's what they are). We'll have to see, I guess.

That looked great. I always wanted to try BG&E, now I pretty much have to. Part two is looking to be amazing, judging by that fast-paced action sequence.

@GuitarAtomik & WhiteLight:

Stop spreading misinformation. It's entirely possible to link character animations through inverse kinematics to create seamless movement; the real issue is taking the time to code something that complex.

The fluidity of the movement and the inertia of the camera are easy effects to program, but developers opt for tighter control over the camera so the player has more rein over what they see; The Bourne Conspiracy had very softened camera that made movement flow well.

Having the character perform actions like looking back after landing and auto-locking to jump between target heads is done pretty easily too, and nothing else you've said is outside the realm of possibility. As for the CG being too "nice" to be in-game, I think you need to take a second look at how well games are being rendered now; for instance Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2.

That was pretty clearly not gameplay footage, if you ask me.

reminds me a little of mirror's edge, aside from that its third person. I like how it flows. this game is relevant to my interests, in that sense. I wonder if the first game was anything like this? I didn't hear anything about it.
