Imitation may be the best flattery, but TechEBlog's vision of how Super Mario Galaxy may have looked on the Super NES (had it been made back then) is an impressive sight to behold, if I say so, myself.
While the current version for the Wii still holds a special place in my heart as the pinnacle of all things Mario, judging by the video linked to above, we could have enjoyed the experience a long, long, time ago. What's next for these guys... Twilight Princess on a TI-83 Plus calculator? I do hope so. I would sooo buy that game.
No, that honor would go to the original PlayStation. It has Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, and Final Fantasy VII.
OK, so that's just my opinion. The NES definitely rocked!
The playstation was like the ugly friend who felt the need to whore herself out in a desperate attempt to get the boys to like her but in the end couldn't stop them leaving her and going after her more attractive friend.
eech I come across sounding like a retarded yahtzee well anyway my point stands... erm the point being that most of the playstation exclusives have either become multiplatform, been re-released on other formats or have left completely.
Out of Gameboi's list the only exclusive they have left is final fantasy 7, oh wait that was on the PC. But hey at least the playstation gave us these games first right.
Once you have a SNES you don't need any other console. I can see it now, fresh cartridges for the SNES, the new SNESlim and lots of stuff. Good hours of hard blowing a cartridge.
I'd say the SNES is the best console of all time followed by the PS2, those first gen 3d graphics and gameplay just don't hold up well. Even the N64 games hold up better.
Let's not forget how the PlayStation was born. I believe Nintendo could comment on that one ;-)
Many games that started out on the PS have gone multiplatform, but that's just Economics. Why miss out on the sales by limiting yourself. I have the greatest respect in the world for Nintendo and the wonderful games they've given us over the years.
However, to forget about the great games that were spawned by the PlayStation would be a great injustice to video game history. I stand firm to my earlier comment, and add Gran Turismo :-)
SNES had the worst controller EVER..made for people that smell like cabbage.
I am a HUGE Metroid fan, so props to Nintendo for every release of that game (other than on the gameboy..metroid 2 i think..sucked)
I preferred my Genesis over the SNES any day of the week.
Dreamcast did rock big time..too bad the doggy ps2 came in and mopped up big time....Anyone miss having VMU's to pick your plays in NFL 2+ ?
Most video sites aren't blocked here... This page just seems to blow up every time on my work computer. I guess I'll have to wait untill I get home to watch it.
I stand by my choice of SNES as #1 system of all time. However the PSone is a close second for me. I love RPGS so naturally these are my two favorite systems. FF6, Chrono Trigger, Xeno Gears and FFT, w00t.
I think I'd like the SNES version more than the Wii one.
I just have to say it because I've wanted it off my chest for a while but I hate Super Mario Galaxy. Everything they've added to the game over previous iterations (Super Mario 64) is frustrating and/or unwieldy ESPECIALLY the gravity mechanics. The only exceptions I've seen to this rule are the Ice Suit and Bee suit which both handle as you'd expect. Plus they completely ruined one of the best draws of SMB64 and that was being plopped down in a mini world that you could explore. In SMG you have to get the stars in the pre-defined order by traveling to the world with the right star selected. Where's the exploration!?! I'll even overlook the cliche world themes and pointless story as well it's a mario game that's what I expected.
Anyways I REALLY had to get that off my chest because it's bugging me.
I have to agree.. I strongly disagree with all the "Mario Galaxy is the best game in history" caliber reviews...
What bugs me is this: You look back at the awesome ones...Super 3, SMB 64...all were cartoony but all were about shoving a turtle shell up some Koopa's ass.
With SMB Galaxy, they have turned it into something that only my 4 year old niece would be attracted to...Crooning stars for example feel like some dirty man on the corner trying to coax you into an ally..too much pink princesses and dolly's for my tastes...nothing to do with it being a cartoon..I also just dont care for the forced star pickup / shoot + being (as Logo stated) forced into a set path..
I dont really consider SMB Galaxy a true successor to the franchise...Im waiting for SMB 4...one that has the same feel to it as SMB 3 etc...
HEY LOOK AT ME I'M BEING CONTROVERCIAL BY HATING SUPER MARIO GALAXY
(Kidding, obviously.}
But I'm not sure SNES could do sprite resizing as well as what's shown in the video. I remember when things grew and shrank in Yoshi's Island they'd look a bit assy. And could it even do all of the gravity stuff shown here? I'm not sure this is a fair representation of the SNES's abilities.
Fact SNES is the best console ever
@ vohaul
OMG youre so right, Mario is so kiddy now, I remember doing the fatality's to bowser. Seriously though have you even played SMG?
It's cool, but the SNES's sprite scaling capabilities weren't that good... It could do it, but not to that degree. Sega Genesis, on the other hand... BLAST PROCESSING FTW!
Im not sure the SNES audio could have busted out that jazzy remix, but a nice video nonetheless.

Now, I'm not necessarily saying this is the best mario game ever (although I might make that argument once I've had some time to reflect on it), but attacking it for it's cliche worlds is a bit stupid. Pretty much everyone bagged Sunshine for not using those worlds. Besides that, its like saying, I like LOTR, but whats with the cliche of the dwarves and elves.
That's why I said, "I'll even overlook the cliche world themes...".
I'm not attacking or knocking the game for said worlds as its what you'd expect from Mario. My only point is that the worlds are your standard Mario fare and nothing really out of the ordinary.

wish nintendo would make it for real :-)

Just checked, and it's still working. Videos blocked where you are at?

Just sayin..
And don't get me wrong. I did enjoy Mario Galaxy a lot

Galaxy feels too much like "Ur Mr. Gay"
There I said it.

Either that, or they need to hire this guy to develop this for the DS. DO WANT.
@ vohaul

Also, Vohaul can go hump Bugs Bunny, SMG was plenty cartoony. Don't hold your breath for SMB 4.
Oh yeah.
ZOMG.

It's cliche cause Shiggy made it cliche.
