Who put that plane in my house: Lionhead concept art is striking photo

When Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux said his next game was based on a “single, pure thought,” it was hard to imagine what exactly he meant. Despite opportunity, Molyneux hasn't elaborated on the statement, so it's only fair that we speculate. Could the game be about something as simple as pooping? Or could it be something lofty like justice or survival? We've recently come across concept art from two different Lionhead games about the latter choices.

The art is from Leading Light Design, a company that specializes in concept and production design. One of the two projects that Leading Light has done for Lionhead (via superannuation) is named Justice, and the other has been dubbed Survivors.

Justice (pictured above) conveys its name quite well. The art suggests that the game will tell the story of an escaped convict looking for redemption. Survivor has the beefier gallery to tell its story. Some sort of disaster (or a series of disasters) has occurred and crippled the old neon boardwalk Coca-Cola lifestyle. The images show a variety of people in different places, presumably surviving whatever happened.

Both titles feel like a radical shift from what Lionhead has released the last few years. It will be interesting to see how Molyneux envisions something a bit more modern and (hopefully) without potions that remove scars.

What strikes me is how you failed to see the connection between that Photograph and Flight 3407 crashing into that house. It's eerie hows much it reminds of that.

Indeed. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pic as well. Quite an unfortunate coincidence though I wonder when these concept pictures were released...

Strange that they would release such a image so soon after that crash, I would of thought they would waited a few months till the media forgot about it.

I thought of Flight 3407 too. A very eerie and unfortunate coincidence. Especially with the NYC papers doing profiles on many of the people on board the plane, as well as with the family that was inside the house.

I don't know what pic is better looking, this header image or the one for the story under this one.

Both of those games sound very cool. I'd love to have more information about them.

Tail number 28000 is used for Air Force One (one of the 747s anyways).

Yeah...the timing of this concept art can't just be a coincidence, right? If it isn't, those Lionhead guys are insensitive idiots.

A disaster surviving game is just what I need.
I just love survival games, but most of them are to story driven for my liking.
Stranded II is a pretty decent survival game without story, but it isn't a disaster survival one...
And fallout 3 has just the right setting but isn't really focused on survival.

What I want is a non story driven urban survival game, like collecting food at stores and finding good places to sleep and move on. Maybe some events but not much, like running into fellow survivors or finding some establishment where you can co-operate with (finding food for everyone in there) or just pass by and move on, a game that go's on untill you pass away.

I'm gonna check survivors anyway. It kind of looks like that other disaster game, what was it called again? I Live, Still Alive? Something like that.

I'd rather prefer a non-action zombie apocalypse game myself.

@ Zanfib: That's what I thought, too. It certainly looks like the tail of Air Force One.

There's also the capitol building in the background, and what looks like a few other smoke columns going toward it. The Air Force One hypothesis sounds solid.

So how is that Justice? Interesting route for Lionhead. Alittle . . . serious . . .

I think the Disaster genre has incredible potential by any developer. That one for Wii looks okay, but goddamn I wanna see something on 360 or PS3 that just blows me away.

For those who are complaining about the art and the recent Buffalo plane crash, Peter Molyneux is British, not American. Yes, the crash got coverage over there, but I doubt that it affected the Brits as hard as it hit Americans simply because it happened on our home turf. The issue of distance has a tendency of doing that.

Secondly, while the Buffalo crash was tragic, why should he not publish his works for a global audience because of the delicate sensibilities of a comparatively minuscule amount of people? The U.S. is not the world, even though we have an (annoying) tendency of thinking that we are.

And, yes, that plane IS Air Force One. The "28000" on the tail fin confirms it.

Survivor must be a codename. Judging from the second piece of concept art, I'm guessing the game's real title is "Fallout 4: London Boogaloo".

All I can see is that the plane missed the Capitol and hence failed to bring CHANGE!

I can confirm based on the tail of the plane that it's indeed Air Force One that's pictured above.

Zanfib is right on the money: 28000 is used for the 747s that fly the president around. They also have the US flag on the tail, and you can see part of the light blue body of Air Force One as well.

Google Maps seem to show that it's crashed on Maryland Ave. NE, for those of you in the DC area. That's the only street with residential houses and a view of the Capitol like that, according to street view. Maybe they were making an emergency landing at Washington National and didn't make it?

I'm guessing something caused the plane to break up (bomb, missile, collision), creating the fires in the background from the other parts. It then leads to that the protagonist has been accused of the act and now has to find who actually did it in a XIII style plot.

An original well-designed espionage thriller would be nice to see. Kojima without the more wild elements.

Interesting that this game was developed last year. While the eerie circumstances might tread on the toes of some, I'd check a game like this out.

Ubi's I Am Alive I think could be one of 09's games to watch. If Molyneux can quit his high brow ideas that don't quite work, I'll check his games out too.

what i gather from that picture is some kind of attack, in the background you see more smoke in different areas pretty spaced out. only if that plane blew up in the air would it send wreckage that far apart, or its multiple attacks. that's my take of it anyway.

It is definitely Air Force One. Besides the fact that the scene is in Washington D.C. (the capitol building in the background), #28000 is Air Force One and the paint schemes are identical.

Maybe what Molyneux dreams up actually happens in a random dimension. Perhaps this time it was in ours.

Here is a haiku:

Is he alien?

Not to be cold-hearted but, people need to learn to move on.

Remember that day, in 2001.. I don't need to tell you the date. Remember what it did to us, not just on TV but in movies? Remember all the crap they had to take from movies that had the "structures" in them? Why? Because we aren't meant to ever lay eyes on them again? It's stupid. Don't treat us like babies unless you see us wearing a bib and suckin on some formula.
