GameCube enthusiasts will either be pleased or pissed to hear about the recent announcement of a white GameCube controller release coming in the latter half of April. Pleased because its pretty and because its a GameCube product, but pissed because its being released in Japan only so far. While it hasnt been announced outside Japan, it might be sold in America, depending on Nintendo's desire to make money (translation: it'll be here before you know it.) Nintendo is releasing the controller to match the Wii color scheme and it will retail for 2, 000 Yen (about $20 US.) The cord is roughly twice as long as the original Cube controller, which will surely prove handy for any further cord strangulation I plan to stage in my home in the future. Is it worth your 20 spot to get a pretty new color (or lack thereof?) Or do controllers for older systems fly right past your radar? [Via Wired - Thanks, Adam!]

Even though they lack rumble that wireless ones are the way to go still for Wii use. Sorry I like many probably won't risk cords around the Wii, it already drives me insane with RockBand having cords all over the damn place. Cords = sooo 2000
it's cool and all, but all it shows is nintendo's complete lack of guts when it comes to new technology (lolol wii=2 gamecubes duct taped together)
I'd like a white wavebird for backward compatibality fun.
I like the Classic controller too much to bother- but if i need it, i'll use my Wavebirds
I dont mind the cords, and I have all corded GC controllers.
That looks pretty nice! Though I do still have my Wavebirds so I probably won't even NEED it. Though it would be cool. :D
oh good timing too, to combat sony's release of their white ps1 controller
A white wave bird could have been a step up instead of just taking the old controller and slapping a new coat of paint.
The price is decent. I bought a used GC for like $14 a little while back and hate the short cord.
I just wish I could find Wavebirds that aren't super expensive.
I actually want that. Although, as stated by Redzie, a white wavebird pad would have been cooler. Especially if it used the Wiis built in wireless and had rumble.
I personally hate the Wavebirds. They're bulky, and they have that annoying battery pack that gets in my way. I always bring my wired controller with me when I go somewhere where Gamecubes will be played. So I for one am excited about the longer cord. This means I don't have to move my Wii from the entertainment center or rely on my old, shoddy controller extension cord. I could care less about the color.
@Velcroman: It shows their lack of guts how? Just because you don't want one doesn't mean everyone doesn't. I personally detest wireless connections in most cases.
Eh, I guess it's nice to coordinate.
the cord is sooo damn short! just make it connect to the Wiimote please if its not going to be fully wireless.
also Butmac had this up on Cblogs this morning
Why do I need this? my Wii-mote does everything perfectly.
They need to release new wavebirds. I want wireless.
shit they should of just put some bluetooth in it and made it wireless, its not like people are buying them for the gamecube
I can't wait for the gold Dreamcast controllers
It's weird how that nintendo magic works on me, because, despite my first statement, the more I look at it, the more I want it.
It was the same damn way with tht GBMicro. I ddnt need another GBA game player, but I got it anyway... How do they put the voodoo on me like that?
Is it wireless? No? Then FUCK IT.
I just got this

I like it because its very much like an xbox controller, its wireless AND it has rumble(wich has a toggle). Its only 20$ on most websites, but i found it on Dell's website for like 15$.
Cons - Its pretty small (i got used to it pretty fast) and alot of people dont like the blue gribs.
This probably wont work but if it does...Pic for the lazy.

Ooooooo long chord! Do want!
How come it's not wireless? That's just being cheap imo
White wavebird please!
Should be wireless.
They've been planning the release of a white GC controller to match the Wii since the Super Nintendo. Don't buy it and succumb to their devious plot.
Wavebirds are where its at. They last so long, almost never have to change the batteries on them.
They'd better release it in America. It's impossible to find Gamecube controllers unless you get a used or 3rd party one. Why would they discontinue the Gamecube controller when you need it for half of Wii's games?
Ya know, last night I was seriously thinking which wired controller would be best for bondage and I thought to myself, "The gamecube's. Now only if it had a longer wire..."
I fucking kid you not.
I hate the wavebird controllers. All my GC controllers are mushy (springs in joysticks are dying), and there aren't any first party controllers available near me. Plus the extra cord length is nice.
Well, I could use the extended cord for Smash, but really, in the age of wireless this is kinda moot.
@ MissHinasaki
Actually, I've thought about that too, because the way you can slip the cord though the open area between the D-Pad and the yellow control stuck - the plastuc plug at the end locks in place, it makes it perfect for cuffs because not tape or anything is needed (not that I've ever tried it or anything) - I use to use it to keep my controller rolled up.
Um, this actually sounds really great. It'll match the Wii, and the cord is longer, so while it's still no Wavebird, it'll be nice for Brawl.
@necrozen
Holy fuck, you're right! I never noticed that...
White looks pretty good on the GCN controller, I've been trying to figure out what colors to spray paint my Wavebirds. Gold, blue and now I plan on doing a white one.
I actually love the wavebird and whatnot. But I always wanted the rumble.
seeing this, WITH a longer cord (the only dread I have with the original GC controller.) i'm picking up. Brawl can be enjoyed with my hands being nicely entertained with sweat.
@ MissHinasaki
Yeah, Nintendo puts a lot of though into their controllers. I can see the R & D now... Miyamoto holding a whip with that donkey kong grin on his face, one of his 12 wives dressed like a toadette tied to rocking chair with a black GC controller -
lol
what were we talking about?
Oh yeah, white controller, longer corde - greater tensil strenght for a tighter hold...
I love destructoid.
where are hell are you getting that the cord will be twice as long? the gray circle says "cable: 3m." current gamecube controllers aren't 1.5m short...yeah.
Well we can just order from lik-sang... Oh wait, never mind.
holy fuck i just measured mine, i had no idea they were actually that short. my apologies.
I'd buy it.
I'd buy a wavebird with rumble, I like the VC controller but I hate the fact that it doesnt work with GC games.
this is probably the cloest I'll ever get to it though so it'll do.
My clammy hands would stain the shit out of that thing.
Corded? What were they thinking? Well atleast it's only $20 compared to the $54.99 rumbling sixaxis!
Ah shit, another Nintendo device in Apple white... I'll have to get four--I only have one GC controller, and it's seven years old. Plus, the white will match my Wii, DS Lite, and PS2.
I for one like the GC controller, and think this one's purdy. =D
Why?
its not wireless there is a cord on it.
What is the point? Make it wireless with rumble I know that is possible I have seen them on ps2 and nintendo made on with out rumble.
OR update the firmware and make it bluehtooth wireless so we dont have to use the lame gamecube ports in a funny spot.
Because of this and my gameboy player I still keep my gamecube sitting next to the wii.
Nintendo is really missing out by not releasing Wavebirds. They could sell those things for $50 and wouldn't even have to add rumble to make a freaking fortune.
Make it a bluetooth WaveBird ("WaveBird BT") and I'll buy a sackful.
If I didn't already have two wired and two wireless Gamecube controllers, I'd totally want one of these.
I also prefer the wired controller over a Wavebird, but with the short cable on my seven year old black GCN controller (it came with my GCN, got it in 2001) playing Brawl or GCN games with it is a little bit of a pain, and its seven years of use show with the C-stick not working quite right. If the cord on this is noticeably long, I'll get one to replace my old black controller. Hell, I might even import one if it pops up on import sites.
I do use a Wavebird most of the time now though, I just don't like how fat it is, and other subtle aspects (L/R buttons feel *slightly* different, etc.).
