This is just ridiculous, I mean sure I have complaints with the game as the little released information implies it to be (and I think my few real worries are justified and legitimate), but I DONT just want just a pretty remake and in fact would be extremely disapointed in SEGA if that's all we got. Sonic 1,2,3&K were quite possibly the pinnacle of the platforming genre at the time, but not any more, the genre has grown a lot since those days and people weren't so blinded by nostalgia they might see that. Sonic NEEDS to evolve and change, just in a different direction than the 3D games have been taking him.

Sonic Rush was horrible on the DS (it was on the DS, right? Been a long time), it was way too fast.

I believe the sentence I'm looking for is "lol online petitions". It's best to just ignore them, they'll see something shiny and forget what they were complaining about.
The funny thing also that Sega said, if you have any complaints or suggestions for Sonic 4, to tell SEGA. They claimed that they were open for suggestion and that's what is going to be the whole point with the episodic format... so they can change up shit.

Minor point here, but the first Sonic isn't even the best example of 2D Sonic. If SEGA made a rehash of Sonic 1 the fans would be bitching about wanting spindashing.
By that rationale there should have been an outrage when Mario 2 came out because of the playable princess and lack of koopa, mario world 2 because of the baby mario concept, mario 64 because it was in 3d.... Man Castlevania 2 and Zelda 2 probably gave these people aneurysms. Really, what brand of "fan" actually protests when the company franchise they like gets the opportunity to RE-vitalize its mascot. I'd love to see another Alex Kidd, Earthworm Jim, Kid Chameleon, Bonk? Out of curiosity, was there a boycott to Sonic Adventure? Has there ever been a Mario boycott? Speaking of which, wouldn't Sonic Adventure on xbla be amazing?

Not to double post (even though I probably worded my last post wrong in the last sentence), but Jim, you should do a "Why the Sonic Petition is Blatanly Better Than Any Other Petition", or something of that sort.

I am the creator of the petition. First of all, I just want to say it was initially a joke and wasn't worded perfectly on purpose. I do agree that I do not enjoy the look or feel of sonic 4 one bit, but tell me Jim.. why do you feel the gameplay looks arlight? Everyone keeps saying its alpha this alpha that, and everyone keeps saying wait till the game is out.. but no one will say the game looks really good and awesome. I honestly do not see how you can't see the similarities between sonic 4 and rush, much less considering its made by the same developer. It complexs me to think you believe it wouldn't run on a similar engine as the DS when we know how Dimps works.
Which version of Sonic 1 are they going to buy? A used copy of the original Genesis cartridge? Cause that would be awesome.

There's been a cult of self-gratifying Sonic "fans" ever since Sonic Adventure 2, but my god the shitstorm they've created the past few months is unreal.
The fuck is wrong with these guys. Sonic Rush and Advanced were awesome games the only Sonic games I have problems with are the story based ones because they try to make Sonic what he isn't. I wouldn't mind Sonic 4 being a combo of the old school Genesis and the Gameboy games. These guys need to shut the fuck up and play a Sonic Hack. SEGA is finally getting back on track with Sonic games and im happy with that.
This doesn't really matter, but the term 'reboot' applies only to instances where the developers scrap all previous continuity and start a new series based on the same IP, but in an alternate universe. Sonic 4 isn't a reboot. It is, as its name implies, a direct sequel.

@Jackie Fhan: If you really are the Jackie Fhan that made the Sonic 4 petition, I've got to ask, why are you complaining about the game when you've only seen a video of the game? Yes, it looks like Sonic Rush, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will PLAY like Sonic Rush. And you mention that you didn't like the look or feel of the game. I see no reason to take the petition down, and I'd be open to have a open disscussion with Jim on Sonic 4. I think it would be great if he would like to do it and post it for everyone to see. Of course, I just like to talk and see what others think and a mature civil disscussion is always nice if you can get it. I take what I see and can tell that Sonic 4 has many faults, rather it is fixed or not is up in the air. It would be great if they did fix a lot of the many problems. I know Gaf has a lot of great comparisons and problems with the design choice as well.

I apparently missed out when some diety was handing out the "can tell everything about a game from a few seconds of a trailer, including gameplay and control feel" ability. Fortunately, I was there when "correct grammar and articulate writing" was being handed out, which apparently the author of this petition skipped on. Sonic's character design looks really lame in this. I hate when Anime screws up American characters. I'd rather see the old Sonic.

Some Sonic fans are idiots. However, the main problem is that Sonic fans are all over the place. I won't lie, I like Sonic the Hedgehog as much as I enjoy the Resident Evil or Tales of Series or Legend of Zelda games, and I do converse with quite a few fun to talk to fans but then there's other fans who are idiots that give all the fandom a bad name. This idea not only doesn't make any sense, I haven't seen any Sonic fan I know personally really take this seriously.
Even if this was Sonic Rush HD, Sonic Rush was a damn good game. It was a lot like the original Sonic titles, even if Advance did a better job.
Too bad Sonic 4 still looks like garbage thus far, and this being SEGA, it won't be improved any for release. Not to mention it hardly looks like it plays anything like the classics with those awful physics and poor level designs. Even the art looks like a really poor, half-assed imitation of the classics.

If I was working at Sega, I think I'd be urging more Sonic Games like this. "Hey guys. We get all these cocks buying old Sonic games, and we also sell a bunch of new games. Do this again please. You have succeeded at life." Assuming they get money for Sonic 1. I don't see why they shouldn't, but if they don't; that sucks.
