Whining Sonic fans take Sonic 4 complaints to new lows photo

The irony. A day after I post an article about how miserable "fans" should shut their mealy mouths, here comes the Sonic Furry Brigade to ruin everybody's day. In what is perhaps one of the most pathetic fanboy petitions I've ever seen, a group is urging people to buy the original Sonic the Hedgehog on the day of Sonic 4's release, as a show of protest against Sega's franchise reboot.

The group, having only seen several seconds of leaked, unfinished gameplay, now declares that Sonic 4 is not exactly what they want out of a game, and are buying Sonic 1 in a bid to show Sega that they basically just want a remake and not a new game at all. At least, that's the message they'll definitely be sending. Here's their ridiculous statement:

Fans of the sonic series are like most sega fans, we want their old games brought back to the glory days when sega was pretty much the power in video games. Seeing the gameplay of sonic 4 has made many of us realize what we already knew, Sonic 4 will simply not be anywhere near as good as the original sonic games. Either way, We will decide to finally show sega what the fans truly want. A real sonic 4, as long as sonic 4 stays the way it is, we will not buy it, we will in fact buy sonic 1 on release in protest of sonic 4, till we end up with a re tool, or change, we want sonic in hd, not sonic RUSH HD. We will not buy a future sonic game, till we get a true successor to sonic 1/2.

The gameplay released so far does not make Sonic 4 look like Sonic Rush at all. It looks closer to Sonic Advance than Sonic Rush in terms of pacing and that game was, in my mind, a true successor to the old school games. I've seen nothing in the leaked footage or screens so far to tell me that this game will be anything like rush. As always, self-proclaimed fans of a series display that they know dick-all about the thing they claim to love. These people should hang up their furry costumes in shame.

Will buy SONIC 1 on SONIC 4 release [ipetitions, thanks Jer]

Wait...

If you're such a big fan, won't you already have Sonic 1?

The only complaint I have so far is that it looks like when Sonic jumps, he spins a bit too slow. But it's hardly a deal breaker, and if that's all I've got to complain about when the game comes out, I'll be quite chuffed.

Nothing's more pitiful than moaning about a 2.5D side-scrolling re-hash, let alone one that they have never played. I suppose the prostitution of Sonic to millions of poor Wii franchises doesn't register

They certainly did a good job at losing all credibility instantly.

I like how the left out Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, and didn't bother to capitalize the "s" in "Sonic." It makes them look SO professional.

What a crock of shit - this has to be for attention... Their petition is so poorly written, lacking proper punctuation and grammar -- They sound like 90-year old men who long for the "glory days" when you could go to a movie, eat a 5 course meal, go roller skating and still get change from the nickel.

Sonic Advance was an amazing progression of the series; it really seemed like how a game about fast-running rodents should be done. Hell, on many levels you didn't even have to stop running if you knew what was coming in front of you (not to mention that for a handheld the size of the levels were pretty vast) and I loved the bosses where you were constantly running.

yeah these fans are pretty stupid, i mean i do admit sonic looks a little goofy, maybe not all of his proportions look right, but honestly the gameplay looks like its the same awesome side scrolling from the originals.

So they're protesting what is essentially supposed to be fan service, whereas nobody said shit when Sega pumped out terrible titles like Sonic Unleashed on a semi-yearly basis? Really?

I mean, I say this as a gamer, but good lord do I hate gamers sometimes. Pick your goddamn battles. Protip: Sonic the Hedgehog is never worth fighting for.

Yet another thing I fucking hate about other gamers: knocking a game before trying it. I'm sorry, fuck these guys. Where were the protests, outrage and boycotts when Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic The Hedgehog PS3/Xbox360 were released?! I will be downloading this game on PlayStation Network as a big middle finger to these shameful assholes.

I almost want to believe that Jim is searching extremely hard to find these things and their only a small part of the overall picture. Sadly I know this is nowhere near truth. They finally give people what they want, and then they complain about it. I just...don't get it...

They won't be happy until EVERYTHING is just like the original.

But you really shouldn't pay attention to them - they are a vocal minority. Most people do want some improvements made over the original sonic.

You see why SquareEnix won't re-make FFVII? It's because of nonsense like this - fans who believe they have a right to tell how a company, which they most probably have no shares in, how to develop a game.

If the old sonic fans don't like what they see, fine don't buy it. It's well within your rights. But to act all indignant and cause a fuss is petty, silly, and ungrateful behavior.

To all whiny fans - unless you PERSONALLY own SHARES in Sega, shut up. You don't have to buy it. You don't have to put up any money towards developing it. If you are so desperate to see a good Sonic game, then why don't you and your friends get together and make a video-game company and buy the rights from SEGA?

Simply put - you DON'T have a right to tell people how to spend THEIR money, making THEIR game. You DON'T have any right to tell SEGA what to do, just because you bought Sonic 1 and liked it. You DON'T have a right to expect a company to bend to your whim.

You DO have a right NOT to buy it. Sure. And if you don't like the game, I suggest you don't! That's why I do with games I don't like! I don't buy them! Not that hard to do genius! How hard is it to NOT buy something?

Don't like it? Don't buy it! But don't get all indignant and bossy and noisy.

People will never be happy, Sega can cater to their demands and then they will say it isn't new enough. It is sad Sega puts so much emphasis on Sonic and not other franchises i.e. Yakuza.

Ya know if all you want is Sonic 1 buy Sonic 1. If Sonic 4 comes out and sales of another Sonic game go through the roof they still succeed in making Sonic relevant again.

What was wrong with Sonic Rush?

Furthermore, people just need to chill out. Judging by the enemies and bosses, I wouldn't be surprised to see the other episodes actually be HD Remixes of Sonic 1 and 2, maybe even 3 and Kunckles (OH MAN, HD LAVA REEF ZONE!). Even if they're not, this still looks awesome, and I will still be buying it.

People just love to complain. The funny thing is that while these people say this shit now after seeing a grand total of like 3 minutes of gameplay, they will still buy the game. I dont care that they say they wont right now. They will in the end. At least, they most likely will if they're nearly as big of "fans" as they claim to be.

okay, i'm 28 and i remember when the Genesis and first two Sonic games released. that says to me that the majority of these fanboys are within the same 25-30 age range as me.

what the FUCK is going on (or not going on) in these people's lives that they have the time and energy to get this bent out of shape over a Sonic the Hedgehog game - or any video game for that matter!?

don't get me wrong, i'm just as much of a gaming enthusiast as the next guy on this site, and i'd like to get my hands on a "trye" Sonic game too. but at 25-30 years old i would expect a lot of these people to have career; spouses; bills to pay; maybe, like myself, even children. is the future of the Sonic the-effing-Hedgehog franchise really a priority? this is the kind of shit that makes me ashamed to be a grown-ass man who plays video games sometimes.

The only thing I don't like about SH4 is that it's episodic. I would have preferred they just release the full game upfront. However, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Its been years since Sonic 3 so what if Sonic hasn't got a haircut since then and complaining about the gameplay...really? come on these people are just complaining for the sake of it. Soon Sega is just going to be like "so you don't appreciate when we try to fix Sonic for you... well FUCK YOU now you get no Sonic."

This petition is a win-Win situation. Petitioners feel like they "win" for giving money to an old game. And SEGA really WINS by getting repeated purchases on an old game, plus the inevitable purchase of Sonic 4.

Honestly, this could (or rather should) be viral marketing if SEGA was smart/devious. It'll raise sales tremendously.

Fap fap fap fans truly want. A real sonic 4, as in Sonic 2 with better graphics so we can complain about it not being new, we will not buy it, we will bitch and there is no way to satisfy us, till we end up with something that is impossible to make, we want sonic in hd as long as it's the same game but different, not sonic RUSH HD, because that isn't Sonic 2 which is the only Sonic game we want but different. We WILL ALWAYS buy future sonic games, till we get sonic 2 again.

That's the beauty of internet petitions. They almost always devolve into YouTube comments without a video.

What Tubatic said.

Retro throwbacks are welcome, IMO, like MegaMan 9 and 10, but not every series revival or reboot needs to be done in the same vein. I like the way Sonic 4 is shaping up right now, maybe (I haven't decided for sure how I feel about it yet) excluding the fact that it'll be episodic.

I find it hilarious that in around 1/3 of the "signatures" in that petition are people telling the serious guys to get a life.

I've loved Sonic games since I got the first one as a kid, and I'm stoked that a true Sonic 4 is on its way... seriously people who complain after minimal gameplay video need to shut the fuck up... I wonder how these people behave in real life... Probably more armchair rebels at work.

@Xzyliac - I see your point, and but these petitions leave many in the unfortunate position of not allowing those opposed to the petition with a venue to discuss their opinions on the petition. I myself tried to find a way to post without signing, but I don't think its possible. In the end, I just left without signing/posting, but honestly, internet petitions for videogames have never had a profound impact on the final outcome of any game that I can think of so really I say go ahead a sign/post detractions! It'll only make the petition look even less valid that it already is!
