Responding to NPD's August figures, Sony president Jack Tretton said that "we're looking forward to a solid holiday season and are excited to offer a string of unmatched content to consumers in the coming months with LittleBigPlanet, Socom: Confrontation, Resistance 2, and MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.
As for the biggest titles in Microsoft's first-party line-up, there's Fable II, Gears of War 2, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, and Lips; not a bad group of games, either. But how do they stack up against the Sony titles listed above? I'd argue that it really comes down to genre preference.
In order to make this comparison fair, I suppose I'm obligated to list the games Nintendo's got planned for this fall too: Wii Music, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Wario Land: Shake It!. Uh, riiight.
The way I see it, no matter who wins ... our bank accounts lose. For an even more comprehensive look at each console's exclusives, go here.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Such a true statement Grimothy. Personally I think this year is a good year for gaming.
As for GH4/RB2, I'll just let my buddies shell out the $190 each for those bad boys and go to their house to play.
GO GO gadget GAMEFLY!
The new Guitar Hero and Rockbands I play only at other peoples houses so theres no point in those.
Looks like I'll be browsing hotjobs.
I think the Xbox 360 appeals to me most this holiday.
No, no we can't.
I think you get my drift. For me, LittleBigPlanet pushes Sony over the edge on this one.
But... what the hell is Lips doing hanging around those other games?
Unfortunately for Sony, LBP is the only game that appeals to me from their lineup. Even if the game lives up to the tremendous hype, one title just isn't enough to push them ahead of the other consoles. Microsoft scores a couple of probable hits, although Fable and Banjo Kazooie might end up being flops also. Nintendo offers a list of games where none really wow, but all have at least some appeal... assuming Wii Music doesn't end up being as terrible as the anti-hype.
Luckily for Wii owners, there are many other cool games (mostly third-party) scheduled to come out this quarter that didn't get mentioned:
de Blob
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse
Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility
Sam & Max: Season One
Samba de Amigo Wii
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (the biggest reason to own a Wii this holiday season, IMO)
There are also some games announced that *might* be really cool, or might end up being lame. Need to wait for reviews on these ones:
Castlevania Judgment
Deadly Creatures
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars
Finally, don't forget about WiiWare games worth owning. My shortlist looks something like this:
Animales de la Muerte
Bomberman Blast
Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, Episodes 2 through 5
Tetris Party
World of Goo
...although you never quite know what cool stuff will/won't show up on WiiWare.
I don't want to come across as a fanboy here, but I really can't see what there is to offer on PS3 this year - I suppose Resistance 2 looks pretty good, though LBP just seems like a gimmicky physics puzzle game to me.
I am looking for an excuse to get myself a PS3. I like the way the dash operates, I can use it with my PSP, and it's a Blu Ray player - but I guess I will have to wait for some more exclusives.
Oh well, I have plenty to play on my 360.
But the fact that Wii Music is on the list is fine with you? Lol...
