Fellow Destructoid editor Qais Fulton and I share a burning love for most things Star Trek ( I say most because I can't bring myself to enjoy Enterprise -- sorry, fans), and while I know I instantly lose cool points for admitting to loving the often-schlocky series, what can I say -- it's a guilty pleasure. We all have them, and I'd guess that some of yours are much, much more embarrassing than my love of all things Klingon.
After bouncing from Perpetual Entertainment and looking as if it could very well be abandoned, I have to say I'm both surprised and pleased to see this very handsome trailer for Cryptic's upcoming MMO. It's labeled PC on Gametrailers, but if you recall we reported back in July that it was slated for console release as well. It's not due out until next year, so I'd expect this to be the first of many trailers leading up to the release. What do you think of this first glimpse into the STO universe?
I'm sure it could be good but I'm afraid that Cryptic is going to try to cram so much in the "can do" category that the game will be focused more on commanding your ship to do this and telling your crew to do that, that it takes on more of strategy game feel as opposed to the traditional MMO.
See that's the funny thing about Star Wars nerds... they're worthless and worship a piece of shoddy crap. Let me ask you something 'Wookie', if that is indeed your real name, why is that Anakin at age 8 is 'too old' to become a Jedi, but Mark Hamil at age 47 wasn't? Eh? AND!! AND!! LET ME ASK YOU THIS MR.WOOKIE!!! If Darth Vader is such a bad ass then how come he doesn't have arms or legs? Eh?

I, for one, am looking forward to this. It may be perhaps the first online game I will actually bloody play. I do wonder if they will 'nerf' the Borg or not given the unfair advantage of their superior technology.
Also, Borg? Really? Come on, it could have been more fun to be caught in civil war between Ferengi and Klingon and Romulan and Vulcan instead of just relying on the Borg for conflict.
They should just make the entire game about the time that the Enterprise gets stuck in that time loop, and the old Enterprise-C keeps smashing into the Enterprise-D and the warp nacelles explode, over and over and over.
Actually that time loop was when the Enterprise-D kept smashing into the U.S.S. Bozeman, a Reliant Class Ship piloted by Dr. Frasier Crane. The episode with the Enterprise-C was where there was an alternate universe where Tasha Yar never died and the Federation and the Klingons never achieved peace and...
there's nothing "guilty pleasure" about star trek (at least TOS, TNG and DS9... those are among the best tv shows of all time, even by most critics' standards!)
that said, i have no idea if this game will be good at all.
(aarrghh, mustn't show interest in trek game......must maintain coolness in front of fellow dtoiders..... must.... hit..... emergency...... cool button)
OMG, I had no idea there were Star Trek fans on the staff. Also, I had no idea there was so much hatred towards Star Trek, these days. I think ST is so much more enjoyable than Star Wars. (Not that I dislike SW, of course.)
I am a star wars geek engaged to a trekkie, so in the end you can enjoy both- (she dragged me to doohan's last appearance and I made her go to C4)- that said- I am not interested in the war aspect- I think it would be cooler if you could terraform a planet and create your own society or have an exploration vessel and explore those societies while following the prime directive- and fighting in between IF it happens if it is just eve online with star trek it seems not so fun
Do not hide your ove for Star Trek Colette, flaunt it. I to love the greatness of this sci-fi show and while the games seem to typically suck, I always hope that there will eventually be a diamond in the rough. Maybe this is it.
Star Trek has such potential for an awesome video games. I liked Next Generation more than the others. I'm more familiar with the movies than any of the show, but I must say there is fun to be had with Star Trek. If you could load a team of dudes onto a ship and boldly go where no one else has, that would be awesome. Problem is, everyone will want to be the guy shooting phasers or flying the spaceship around. I doubt anyone wants to have the job of repeating what the ship says to the captain.

That's the trouble with trailers

Go where no man has gone before, I say!

oh yea cuz if it didn't, fans would throw a BITCHFIT.
