Did you own a Genesis back when the console was in its prime? Did you watch the first three seconds of this video yet? If you answered yes to both questions, then you know what it's like to be attacked by a wave of nostalgia.

Mega Man 9 may have been the first WiiWare game to shamelessly attempt to steal the childhoods of young adults and resell it to them, but it looks like Pole's Big Adventure plans to take the practice to new heights. Thing is, it looks like that's about all this game is trying to do. Thus far, the only things Pole's Big Adventure has going for it are its resemblance to games for the Sega Master System, and a few cultural reference "jokes" related to Super Mario Bros. .

And it's working. I will buy this game just for the "SAY-GAH". If that's not enough nostalgia-whoring for you, check out the game's official site. It'll flash you back to 1985 faster than the flux-capacitor.

Is this only coming out on WiiWare?

Yeppers.

I figure that developers aren't thinking that games like this and Bit Trip.Beat could succeed on the other consoles. They're trying to leech of the audience of the Wii's virtual console, and from what I've heard about how much better Mega Man 9 sold on WiiWare than PSN or XBLA, they have good reason to do so.

It looks like it uses the color palette and audio of an NES instead of a Sega Master System.

I really miss the super saturated and chunky look of SMS graphics and the weird grindy audio SFX that were in the soundtracks.

I sort of wish that they had gone for an Alex Kidd in Miracle World aesthetic. Oh wells!

I'm intrigued but not overwhelmed with desire.

How is it even possible that game isn't called "Super Mario in Western Land?"

Looks great and all, but seriously. The only legal leg they would have to stand on is calling it a parody. I mean c'mon. Is it me?

I'm sorry but unless you follow Say-Gah with some classy Mega Drive compositions I'm just not sold.

Megaman 9 was built with one thing in mind: To reproduce the NES experience with as much authenticity as possible.

Pole's Big Adventure looks like it's an amateur flash game, I don't see anything that's really all that astonishing or memorable.

Oh...my....god...Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout. I haven't heard that name in ages. I beat that game like 20 times when I was a kid. I'm going to go play it right now.

Bug's Bunny's Birthday Blowout was batshit. I rented it several times as a kid. And then I finally beat it. Turns out all the other characters were just attacking Bugs because they were throwing a surprise party.

Then he returned to his human form.

I never had a Genesis, but I did spend a fair amount of my childhood playing the Sonic the Hedgehog demo at Toys 'R' Us, so "SAY-GAH" still brings me back to a brightly lit store, craning my neck to look up at a TV. I was so depressed when I finally got a Sonic game on Nintendo, and it didn't have the "SAY-GAH."

Speaking of big pole, this game seems to smoke it.

Mario with a gun. That's what it looks like to me.

As I understand it this is going to be a parody of 8bit sensibilities. I'm looking forward to seeing where this game goes. Don't know if I'm sold just yet.

Also, kudos again to Sega for providing Wii owners with some intriguing original content

I seriously doubt Sega's ability to pull a Capcom.
