Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Maybe you have fond 8-bit memories like I do, of a time when a "good cinematic" was an image of face with a flashing mouth and a jump button was a luxury. Or maybe you don't, and I have shoes older than you.

Either way, I think it's been established that GRIN's Bionic Commando Rearmed is not only a good game, but a damned fine remake and a beautiful homage to an original. Don't believe us? Check the video above, put together by the fine folks over at GameTrailers.

It just goes to show that old-school gameplay mechanics plus fancy next-gen visuals (Rearmed uses the same engine as the upcoming next-gen Bionic Commando) can equal sweet, retro bliss. Dear videogame industry: if you're going to remake games, give them to someone passionate about the original; the difference shows.

One more comparison video after the jump.

Now this is a good comparison video with a worthwhile point. Good to see how faithful Capcom were to the original.

I finally bought this game last night. I was told to skip it and didn't even get around to trying the demo until last night. After that, it was the easiest $10 I've ever spent.

From the second the music and opening cinematic started playing, I was giggling uncontrollably. My girlfriend honestly thought there was something wrong with me. I couldn't believe how well GRIN treated one of my absolute favorite NES games and I can't wait to get back home tonight and play it.

They really expanded and improved the original in a lot of ways, all while maintaining the game's uncompromising difficulty. It's incredible. There is really so much to do in that game that I'm shocked it's only $10.

Yeah, I got this one. So much fun. It reminds me that while I was able to beat Bionic Commando for the NES, It's not like I could do it everytime. It's a hard game.

Also, I didn't even realise it was all that different. When I was little, my mind's eye saw the original with the same realizm that the re-make brings us now.

Still can't jump. (LOL)

They did a good job. Either they were old fans of the original or they studied it with a passion, either way I'm one satisfied customer. Best PSN purchase since Siren.

I love that 8-bit shooting sound. I wonder how many other Capcom games had it. The only one I can think of is Gunsmoke. The videogame alternative to the Wilhelm scream?

I've been listening to the Bionic Commando podcast since it started, and once you get past all the fooling around, it's easy to hear just how passionate those guys are about the game and how respectful they are of the source material.

I've already linked a few people to those videos, and I'm sure I'll show a few more before the day is over. For me, the music is the icing on the cake--Simon Viklund is my new hero.

I was more impressed with the editing job on the videos than the actual gameplay. Either way I liked everything I saw.

It goes to show how BC:R is an amazing 2D retro style game with modern looks. It's a shining example for other such types of games

Am I the only person in the world that thinks of the amiga/arcade version when thinking of Bionic Commando Retro.

At any case, I have yet to pick rearmed up but I probably will now that I've completed Braid.
