MGS4 is just FREAKING LONG game, and im the type of person who looks at every nook and cranny, yes even if i finish the game already and know the spots, i still do the same things i did in my first playthrough but a different approach.
other close games are Team Fortress 2 and Deus Ex HR.
TF2 drop around 1,000 hours before i got bored REALLY REALLY bored with the game that i destroyed my steam account(i just made some random name back then) change email into jibberish, change password to something else, change the name and avatar, remove everything associate to it.
basically i destroyed it to pieces.
why??? i probably wanted to quit badly.
now im regretting it a little since i have some paid games there like The Last Remnant, but other than that it's good.
plus when i tried the game again last jan it didn't have the magic it once had.
it became Hat Fortress 2.

It's been a while since a full blown game addiction has happened...let me think....Hmm...I remember playing Windwaker for days straight. God, I love that game. I guess the closest thing in recent memory is dying and restarting Binding of Isaac over and over. Love it.
Terraria. I don't do a lot of online gaming, but when I open up a server in Terraria with my friends I can go on and on and on.
Trials, Tetris, yes...spelunky, Street Fighter 4 (I still suck at it, though) Arkham Asylum/City Combat Rooms. And... oh yeah, MotherFucking POKEMON!
Civ V. I have only played two full matches and yet I still have over 80 hours logged in.

It usually ends up being grindfesty games that suck me in.
Dragon Quest 3 was the first turn-based RPG I played that let me customize characters and parties, and I easily spent 2 years of my childhood playing it. Whenever a new DQ comes out, I play it to completion but I always go back to 3 on GameBoyColor.
Shin Megami Tensei filled that void for a while, but I didn't discover the series until I was out of school.
These days, Spelunky is definitely a contender for addiction. I also play tower defense games compulsively, but none of them seem to get me like Defense Grid and Sanctum have. I can also play any version of Ys (especially Napishtim, Felghana and Origins) over and over and over again and somehow not get tired of it.
But I think the king of toilet games for me is Final Fantasy Tactics on PSP. No matter where, when or how I put the game down, I always come back and pick up like I never left.

There are several that ate my life at the time of playing them. Super Stardust games do it. Katamari does it. Bit.Trip and Super Meat Boy. Spelunky is doing it now.

Call of Duty 4, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Shadow of the Colossus and Urban Chaos: Riot Response.
All of the above I've spent at least 100+ hours on. Out of all of them though, the most addictive to me was FFX. I spent 600+ hours in that game, 400 of which were straight up power grinding my characters.

Diablo 2, WoW are prob the games I've put the most hours into over history.
Terraria is a game I feel regularly compelled to play though I have no one to really play it with... sadface.

Lognest addiction? WoW, over 3124 hours(130 days) in game time on that. Not played it in like 4 years now though, damn that's a long time, will probably never top that again.
Current addiction? AWESOMENAUTS! I just can't put it down, can't get enough of surprise explosion drop Clunk, I consistently wipe teams out with that. 160 hours (6 days)played.

As for a more standard game which has an ending, Skyward Sword... I couldn't put it down. As a kid I beat Mega Man X1-3 hundreds of times, trying to beat the bosses in different orders and stuff.

Easy, Shining force series on megadrive, Dungeon Keeper 2 (mostly online), Operation Flashpoint (original) on PC, Dark souls (spent two weeks solid during my holiday on it when I was supposed to be house renovating, frequently up till dawn teaming up with yanks), Fallout 3 (first PS3 game I got).
Kudos has to go to PLANETARION, the only MMO I ever played. I'd be launching fleets via WAP when I was working shifts when WAP was barely usable, communicating with gal leaders by text keeping up to date with potential invasions/raids and staying up all night on IRC in the gal/alliance channels. For 2 years it was like a full time job, I don't know how much of it was actual FUN to this day- but it's the only thing that led me to meet groups of people from THE INTERNET. I guess it was like being in an army squad- You were driven by not wanting to let people down, to be a team player- if you HAD to go on holiday accounts were babysat, passwords shared. I was in a fairly active gal which all communicated by text and that was when mobiles were only just becoming common. When I think back to it I almost feel sick- many hours spent just sat on IRC just waiting for stuff to happen. I don't even know any of those people now but at the time I would have counted alot of them as actual friends.

Every time I get into a Mass Effect game I get completely involved in it and it's like a compulsion I have to finish the story and see everything possible.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night baby!!! I literally got one of everything in that game, got the map to 212% or something, had the shortest distance to walk armor pratically memorized etc. All this on a borrowed copy that I ended up keeping (Sry Preston). My memory card & accompaning save file from ye olde ps1 is the jewel of my collection
Skate or die on NES and california games on sega master system, so much time playing those and perfecting my scores, shit I could do with on the surfing levels was epic.
Having to think about it, probably FFVII, since I rolled over the clock twice in that game in one playthrough alone without really realizing it.
I think that the most addicting game I have ever played was Everquest. I am however, finding a new addiction in <a title="Browser Games" href="http://www.mmo-play.com/browser-games">Browser Games</a> like Spiral Knights (go Sega!)

Dragon Force for Sega Saturn. I've had my share of marathon sessions in other games, but Dragon Force had its hooks in me deep. You could always do just one more battle... tweak your army, add a badge, switch a general... one more battle... one more battle...
Hmm, well, I don't know if I've ever been physically addicted to a game, but Super Smash Bros. Brawl came pretty damn close. Played it over 7 hours launch day, and whenever I get into with some friends...well, let's just say on at least a few occasions we've stayed up all night playing it. It's just so much fun with other people, at least as long as we can keep our competitive nature down and have some fun. But when shit goes down, it goes DOWN. Makes it even harder to set the game down actually...
As far as other addictions go, my big one is probably Pokemon. One of my friends has joked that I breath Pokemon, and he might be right. I don't go a single day without at least thinking about it, I browse Pokemon related sites when I'm bored, I think about Pokemon to a ridiculous extent, I listen to Pokemon music almost every day, I've taken on playing Pokemon Red once a year as of late...right now I'm in the midst of playing a Pokemon Black Rom hack (Blaze Black), and I just finished a Bug monotype run of Sapphire a week or so ago. I'm also prepping myself to go through Emerald version when I'm done with Blaze Black, and I'm even planning to copy N's methods to make things more interesting. Whenever I'm on a long car ride I like to whip Heart Gold out and continue to level my in game team up to 100. I've promised myself I will stay away from the internet when Gen 6 inevitably rolls by but...who am I kidding? I'll probably have it completely spoiled before they come out in the US. I might have a problem, but it's all good I think. After all, it was Pokemon that's inspired me to draw/sprite and to learn programming.

i was frist addicted to zelda seris then i got addictied to pokemon then came diablo 2 ff 8 chrono cross and kartia world of fate and yugioh games.then later i got addicted to wc 3 which i believe is my most played game of all time then wow. Now i am addicted to disgaea 3 vita league of legends and dungeons of dreadmore dam rogue likes
Galactic Civilizations is the only game I've had a period I would consider comparable to addictions. It was just the first weekend I had it, but I managed to get like 60hrs of playtime from Friday to Monday.

OMG Peggle! I have 250/250 gamerscore points on the XBLA version. That includes 100% clear all levels in Peggle AND Peggle Nights. The nights where 2am, 3am, 4am would all pass me by AND I HAVE TO GET UP AT 7 FOR WORK... *shudder*

Clocking 280 hours on TFC and I barely find people playing nowadays, which is sad.

I would say probably Galactic Civilizations II, I once played that game for 16 hours in a row. I needed to get everything in everyone of my planets perfect before I ended a turn. Maybe New Vegas, I beat that game 4 times in less than a week and I wasn't rushing through it.
I have to second the "efficient leveling" in Oblivion. It's needlessly complicated and completely unnecessary, but I have to make sure my Orc is the most perfectly developed Orc possible. This includes not only recording and directing each individual minor and major skill increase, but also postponing a number of quests in order to receive the highest possible level of loot and, of course performing every single possible quest.
For sheer volume time poured into it...FFXI, but I really just play games until I get to an ending. Most recent game that kept me steadfast on that goal and not doing much else besides it...Atelier Meruru.
For me, it would have to be spelunky as well. When the old free version first game out for pc, I spent hours and hours and hours a night. I could not stop. Even when it got past the point of enjoyment, I kept saying "Just one more. Then sleep." I did this for almost an entire summer. Now that I've downloaded the superior xbla version, I'm trying to limit my playtime on it.
The Harvest Moon games have done this to me. Not so much the most recent ones, but HM Snes, Friends of Mineral Town, and More Friends of Mineral Town ruined my social life for a while.
Burnout Paradise. Yep. Three full "playthroughs" and over a thousand hours of game time, most of it online. Met some fantastic people there, too. Other than that, classic choices such as Oblivion, F3 and the like deprived me of my sleep the most.
Honorable mention: Sim City 4, even if it was choppy as hell on my old PC. Got a new one the other day and it's the first game I installed.
