What's next for Team Fortress 2? A 'very different' new mode, among other things photo

Still find yourself playing Team Fortress 2 after all these months? Then you're going to want to take a look at this recent piece from The Escapist in which Valve's Robin Walker talks all things TF2 and hints at what's in store for players.

As far as the immediate future is concerned, the Scout is going to get the next class update, which should be out "early this year." Other projects in the pipeline include getting all of the current PC updates working on the Xbox 360 version of TF2 and finalizing a new Payload map.

Walker also mentioned that the team "will soon unveil a very different new game mode," and even though they have got "several new class designs floating around," they will continue to make tweaks and new unlockables their main priority.

There's entirely too much information to fit in this post, so I urge you to read the full article beyond these highlights. Avid TF2 players, what do you think the mystery mode is? My brain isn't terribly productive this early in the day, so I've got nothing.

360 won't get update...Valve doesn't care about 360 beyond initial release.

Way to comment without actually reading the article, Blindside.

Excellent article. TF2 has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time since release, partly because of the wonderful support Valve has maintained for it. Scout is one of my least played classes, so I'm not too excited for that - but I can't wait to see the new mode and new Payload map.

It's a zombie mode. Those are all the rage these days.

I was disappointed when arena was announced as the new mode. I don't mind it but it is hardly a full new mode like payload was. As long as it is something substantial I don't care what it is.

I logged over 100 hrs with TF2 back in the day, and my friends and I even ran our own server, but I haven't played it in months.

All this rubbish with achievement farming, and the difficulty of finding a 2fort server that doesn't have 32 people in it and instant respawn, has totally turned me off the game.

I played this game for an hour and got bored. With such rigid class structures, I don't see how the game can be enjoyable for so long. It's too bad because the visuals are gorgeous, along with the hilarious videos Valve made to market the game.

The reason valve hasnt updated the 360 version is because Microsoft has been demanding that they put it on the marketplace and make you PAY for it. They think thats retarded so they've been waiting to convince Microsoft otherwise. Valve knows what they're doing. I have it on PC and the new updates are awesome!

I'm going to guess that they either unveil the "VIP" and make an assassinate/defend the VIP or they're going to unveil a free-for-all death match. Probably the former, as creating a spawn for every individual person that's fair would be difficult.

New class = civilian

New mode = VIP

Easy as that. They've had the civilian slot ready for months now and people have been backdoor hacking into it.

I've heard the whole "MS won't let Valve release any free DLC" argument. But doesn't Burnout Paradise let you get all their new stuff free for download?

Am I missing something here?

@ Theplanman

That is true, Burnout get's free DLC, I don't see why TF2 shouldn't. I can't wait for it, but god damn are they taking forever. Same goes for that L4D DLC...
