I'm waiting for you to get kicked out of E3 for humping the shit out of a Project Cafe test unit. It will make my lifetime.
While HD is way up there on my list of reason to be excited for Project Cafe, the prospect of a new controller is what has me most giddy. The Wii's controller has never sat well with me, and I've always felt as though the best games (mostly first-party titles) have shoe-horned in motion controls just to justify their existence (DKCR comes to mind), when more standard controls would have worked better.
Still, I, too, am excite!

Also Mario Galaxy looked as good as anything on 360/PS3, so does the new Zelda. Metroid is their only franchise I see potentially benefiting from a high end console, but Retro already did amazing work with it, and who even knows if they have any more plans for the franchise now.
It'd be interesting if Nintendo finally used some higher end hardware to do something that isn't the usual realistic crap you see from everyone else... but I'm really not sure how it could look significantly better than what they've already done.
Also I will be damn surprised if the console renders games at 1920x1080. None of the current consoles do, they're all upscaled from 1280x720 or worse. The Wii is actually the only console that can run games at 1920x1080... if you have a ridiculously beefy PC running the emulator... ahem.

I'm excited. I'm hopeful. As a guy who hasn't turned on his Wii in a long time, I want to reconnect with Nintendo. Really curious how the touch screen mechanic will be implemented as I'm all about the tactile resistance of a button or control stick. The future sure is fun to ponder
Graphics have never been a must for me, but I'm excited nonetheless. Basically what Occams said - I'd like to reconnect with my old friend Nintendo.

Sadly, HD remakes have never been console selling items to me and I imagine this will be a HUGE foucs of Nintendo's inflow of income plan. Remake all the old stuff in HD and re-sell it.
I do see the potential for it but Nintendo games have never felt like, to me, that gritty realistic or "graphically enhanced" and Nintedo as a whole has never pushed the envelope in their games graphics wise as well, their games are not really made to drop your jaw at how amazing they look, thy are meant to be a more family and friends affair with simple pick up and play mechanics.
As a hardcore gamer I see this as being good but for casual Wii owners the enhancement will not be a huge push to sell the system as they just want the fun pick up and play games, us hardcore people want the graphics.

I, too, am just as excited as you are Chad. I LOVE Nintendo. They have yet to let me down.

I dunno. Another Zelda, Mario and Metroid. Yes these games are usually great, and I usually play them to death, but the lack of innovation is making me really jaded.

Aren't we just going to have the same thing over again with the Wii? Great first party titles and a handful of third party original titles. Because to be honest, that strategy has served Nintendo really well so far and I can't see them changing just because the hardware is new and shiny.
Doesn't backwards compatibility mean that the whole of the wii's back catalogue is now in HD too? :D
I'm with you Chad, I cannot begin to describe my excitement levels at this point regarding Nintendo. First the 3DS (which is simply, amazing) and now this, a new console. In HD.

HD will be very nice, but what I really want to see from Nintendo is a better online strategy and a way to have my virtual console/Nintendo shop purchases tied to one account across all platforms.
My face is melting out of it's socket , can't wait to see what Nintendo can cook up for their latest console, Nintendo always does interesting things with what they have separating them from the bunch , and even though some people use it as a gimmick it really shines in the hands of capable developers! Also gief new metroid HD game! AHDAHDWADH

Galaxy 2 looks soooo good, but imagine it with just a little extra...And as awesome as HD titles with Nintendo's staples will be, I can't wait for some new stuff.
Still, it's as good a reason as any to be excited for the new console.

ZOMG is right! I was super letdown with the wii (epic sadface on my gaming career) but I'm excited for Project Cafe. I haven't enjoyed a zelda game in soooo long. but one thing to consider! the Wii 2 ( or whatever it will be called) is coming out in 2012, but thats AROUND the time the other two major consoles will be getting retired. the PS4 is rumored to be coming out in 2014 and the xbox 720 (the next one, thats only a rumored name) is said to be coming out in 2013. so project cafe would only be the dominant console for a year.
HD graphics aren't going to change much in terms of gameplay. The initial jump from 2D to 3D allowed developers to plan games in 3 dimensions instead of being restricted to 2.
With HD, the only difference is that it will look a lot cleaner. That isn't much at all (as proven with how little first person shooters have changed in the past decade).

To be honest, the art style Nintendo typically pulls off has always made up for any lack of graphical fidelity for me. I'll take Super Mario Galaxy over even what I've seen of Battlefield 3.

Hrm, while this IS an exciting prospect, of course [Metroid and Pikmin struck a cord for nem personally] but I suppose it's just not enough to get me really, really, fapping, OMG NINTY TAKE MY MONEY excited. I love a pretty game, but I've never really been a graphics whore type. Often, character design and art style alone are what'll hook me easier than great, hyper-realistic graphics. However, depending on what the controller is, I'll be quite excited to see what can be done with the system new in terms of gameplay. Or even just what developers are playing with it. :]
The reason I'm excited is because of the prospect of awesome Nintendo games in HD, AND innovative ways to play.
But I hope that it will still have obscure little gems like

I used to be a huge Nintendo fan, and I still appreciate the games they make, but I can't get this excited about the classic Nintendo franchises in HD. Will they look great? Sure. Will all of the Zelda bosses be beaten by stunning it with the item you got in their dungeon, slashing it with their sword, and then repeating that two more times? Yes.
I am more interested in the possibility of a screen on each controller. Some of the best games on the GameCube were Zelda: Four Swords Adventures and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, but only if you had the setup to play with four GBAs. I can also imagine games with a bit of deception, where your loyalty or your "hand of cards," so to speak, is displayed there for you and you only.
So yeah. Will playing Mario be fun in HD? Of course. Is it groundbreaking stuff to get super excited over? No, not to me, anyway.
