I hate iPads. I really do. People call my Galaxy Tab an iPad and then when they find out its not, they call it a cheap knock off without knowing anything about it. I hate people.
Oh wow, that is really what kids are expecting these days? $500 tablets? man I was lucky to get half that for Christmas when I was a kid. I think most kids will be lucky to get a 3DS and a game. I think ipads should be fore people over 18, and they should get a job to buy one.

To clarify a bit, an iOS device has plenty of games that are great for younger gamers while also offering the ability to easily surf the web, listen to music, read books and much more. It's also much more intuitive considering that almost any kid can pick up an iOS device and immediately know how to use it.
@Kieran Furlong: Not all mobile games are "casual shit"... and even a lot of the so-called "casual" games are quite brilliant.
If I was a kid, I'd want all that same shit in the same basic order. Smart devices are cool as shit.
@tuoman: an Alienware PC is neither intuitive (to a kid) or portable. It would also be complete overkill.
Even more telling for nintendo's handhelds, they barely make the list for kids over 12 years old. 3ds at 5%, ouch.

Kids these days...
When I was young I was playing with legos and having a blast, then when I got older it was games, books, music etc. Can't believe kids expect to get shit like ipads, tv sets and computers.
We might live in a digital age but this is still a bit much.

An ipad?? they want an ipad, what the heck these kids! Sorry but I agree, kids nowadays are way too spoiled; the kids with over-indulgent parents especially don't know about the value of what they get; a $500 tablet??
We were lucky to get an N64 (it wasn't even new by the time we got it) and we had three games: Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Puzzle League and Perfect Dark. THAT'S IT. We never had other games. I didn't ask for anything else for a long time afterwards

remember Yu-Gi-Oh!(granted many people still play this now; need to get back on it), Gundam Figurines(same as Yu-Gi-Oh) beyblade, text cards, jackstone, Gameboy Color/Advance or even a simple rock paper scissors or chess???
i can tell you people in america are sooo lucky they even get to have these at a young age.
oh well im just glade i get to experience the old ways before gadgets completely take over the new generations.

I'm surprised computer still rank that high as they seem to be a dying breed, if browsing at electronics stores are any indication. I'd be interested in the iPad if it does just one thing better than a device I already own.

I don't know. After seeing scriblenauts on the iphone for a dollar that is superior in every conceivable way to my DS version which I paid 35 dollars for and is practically broken because of the controls, I almost want dedicated handheld gaming to die out myself. Excuse the bitterness, but I'm just not liking paying 40 dollars for a handheld game.
These things must be freaking huge over there in the USA. I don't even know anobody who uses one and if it wasn't for the internet I wouldn't even know you can actually play games on those things.

When I was a teenager I also asked for things I didn't already have which I also couldn't afford myself, and videogames wasn't one of them.

I work at a restaurant and see kids playing with iPads all the time. I think they're pretty great devices for kids to play around with, regardless of all the hate. Plenty of easy to use apps out their geared around creation, I see kids dicking around with little music making apps and cool drawing and basic animation stuff and I wish I had that kind of thing when I was a kid. Not to mention the web is becoming a pretty big part of learning as a child and the iPad gives kids access to that, which is pretty incredible. Not saying I'd run out and get my kid an iPad, but I can see the reason for the desire and potential positive use of such a device. Apple really should make a kid-friendly cased stripped down version of the iPad with last gen components, 8 GB of storage, and maybe like a $350 price point and they would see these things fly off shelves.

Kids always want items they view, or are told, as being "for adults". Makes them feel grown up. Not that they'd have more fun with an IPad then a sweet sweet pile of legos or blocks, but whatever, they don't know better. Hopefully their parents do.
I love how everyone forgets how demanding and fad-driven they were as kids as well.

It's only a hardware-related question, right? It would have been much more fair if you could also vote for toys.
With this type of stuff Nintendo should be focusing on making sure the browser on the Wii U controller is halfway decent. Stick some basic social messaging applications on there and I think that could be pretty cool. They already have something similar to FaceTime going on so I don't think it's unreasonable.
To everyone saying "kids should want toys:" this particular survey is meant to specifically rank the level of "mommy/daddy I want this and also I'm borderline intellectual functioning" for current electronic crap, not toys. Notice that no toys are actually listed, therefore the survey says nothing about the desirability of toys next to trendy gadgets.
unfortunately this is true. Don't know how many people come into the store ask about Ipad's for their kids. Half of them don't even know what the damn thing does.
