Over at Japanator, we're always checking out cool things, and so in my usual perusal of the Japanese blogocube, I came across this little video originally from Nico Nico Douga of what Pokemon monsters would look like if they were moved into the world of Dragon Quest.

Some of the monster changes are benign, like Ditto -- but ones like Pikachu are downright frightening. If you've ever come across a Nikuman doujinshi, it's that sort of fright. Of course, there's Charizard, who enters into the category of bad Akira Toriyama fanart.

And hey, at least this video wasn't of Pokemon x Dragon Quest fan fiction.

That is quite cool.
And i mean the really interesting and enjoyable kind of cool.
Not the cold and undesirable kind.

If they made this, it would be the highest selling game in Japan of all time.

Nice find! The Poliwags are a little more creepy this way, and the Koffing makes me want a shower. I'd love to see some of the newer ones in this style.

This is such an awesome video. I didn't think pikachu looked that bad... But Charizard, seriously... No notable change at all.

It's funny how some of the DQ designs look totally silly and funny, while others look totally seriously demented and evil.

It reminds me of how decent the Pokemon art used to be way back, looked like watercolour. But now its all lame and made of random shapes.

I'm pretty sure that DQ Charizard is striking the exact same pose as the Dragonlord in dragon form from the 1st game. Very cool video.
