Last Friday, we found out that Attack of the Show co-host Olivia Munn would once again be appearing in Playboy. We got to see a video from Olivia's Playboy photoshoot and were promised a look at the cover of the new issue the following week.
G4 has delivered on that promise and the cover was revealed on Attack of the Show yesterday. She graces the cover all wet and in a little red bikini. She won't actually be naked, just wearing next to nothing. I guess you can draw some nipples on the pages or something to trick yourself into thinking she's naked. Whatever floats your boat, man.
Even more exciting was the reveal of Kevin Pereira's surprise announcement of his upcoming magazine cover issues. Damn Kevin, you looking mighty fine! MEOW!
Hit the break to check out the cover reveal. The new issue of Playboy will be out this Friday.
Now you've degraded yourself, helped push the stereotype of women journalists, and generally given gamers' legitimacy yet another kick in the testicles, where are you headed next?
Why the fuck is this on the front page? Since when did Destructoid become a porn blog? We now have three seperate stories covering this Olivia Munn thing. One would suffice.
I don't know, it just seems like posts like these and many of Hamza's posts, where we're told about an actress/whatever voicing a game just so he can post borderline-softcore pictures of her in the photo gallery, are turning away a lot of female gamers, and would give newcomers the impression that Destructoid is all about "tits for hits".
@ Rational Animal
Because it's worthless "news." First of all, she's not a game. Secondly, she doesn't have anything unique about herself that makes her any better then the millions of other woman that can be found. Thirdly, the whole point of putting her in a magazine like Playboy would be to market this softcore material towards the demographic that sits in front of a screen all doing, and it just so happens that entire demographic knows how to use google and get free hardcore material after a few clicks.
She's part of the gaming community? Well too bad. She's not worth the money of how ever much the magazine costs, and she's not worth being reported over as news. Hell, I had no clue who she was before all these dumb reports of her kept popping up on every gaming site/blogs, and now I'm annoyed that I seen enough of these headlines to know who she is now.
Come on people, give the girl a break. She's just another person trying to make her way in the world. Sure she's cute and can smoke a swimsuit something crazy, but if you looked that good, and a mag rep suit waved a fat cheque in your face, would you say no?
I wish her the best, whatever she does. She's a co-host on a game related show, damn cute and therefore its as news worthy, as a new Lara Croft model parade.
If you want to make it more interesting Dtoid, go and interview the lass.
Ehh...meh...it doesn't look that bad but not great either. Oh and just FYI pretty much ever magazine cover and pictures like this within are shopped. Seriously if you saw what these so called "stars" looked like without makeup you'd say you saw them today shopping for groceries because they look like most other women. They just have an army of makeup artists around them, and professional photo shoppers that make them look this way for magazines. I'm not saying Munn isn't hot because I think she is attractive. See the video I'll link below, short time lapse vid, be sure to remember what the woman looked like in the beginning. Sorry to go off on a semi-rant here but this kind of stuff annoys me, women wanting to be like these people when some of them actually look better than the so called "stars" do.
@Rational Animal: So by your logic aa long as tits are involved, it's considered "newsworthy" on a gaming blog? I mean technically she's part of the "gaming press", but I doubt she even plays video games. This story is tangentially related to gaming at best.
I mean, it's no wonder gamers are seen as hormonal teenage boys when this kind of thing gets attention. Just because I like video games doesn't mean I have any interest in Playboy and don't appreciate the assumption that I do.
@Snacks n Candy: I made no mention of logic in my earlier post. I agree that it's only tangentially related to gaming, but who gives a shit. The editors can choose to cover whatever they please and I think, in this case, some of us might happen to care, so why the uproar? What is it adding to the conversation to be like, "Yaaarrgh, this isn't news." Just move on.
Also, it's hilarious to me that people are somehow claiming that Dtoid providing any coverage of this is somehow reinforcing negative stereotypes about gamers.
ZOMG!!!11!!one1!!11! Dtoid covers Olivia Munn in Playboy!!!??? Game journalism has been upended... /sarcasm
This really confirms the article I read just awhile back, wherever that was, bitching about how women on and about videogames on TV should be taken seriously and not just as a, 'sexy piece of ass.'
Dtoid should only be allowed to write articles that are previews or reviews of games! Otherwise people might find out that most gamers are guys and most guys like boobies! We must maintain the integrity of games journalism, Dtoid!
Who gives a shit about Olivia munn anyway. She's just some girl who's fed lines to appeal to the videogame demographic and the hipster demographic as well. Fuck G4, I want my TechTV back please.
Maybe I'm not that picky, but she's really aesthetically pleasing to the eye, many thanks Hamza. Thought the jump with the other dude's covers were funny too = Awesome news.
Rational Animal: Thank you. You saved me the trouble of replying to others. Since when did people think Destructoid was always 100% news and nothing else?
If you guys honestly have a problem with this post, and nothing previous to this post, then you are absolutely retarded. This is middle ground for a Dtoid post. That's not to say that all Dtoid posts are stupid, just that Dtoid isn't a gaming news site.
Hamza's middle name isn't CTZ. On a "journalism" site, we'd probably just call him Hamza.
Also, you're all right- this is a different angle of a similar photo.
Personally, I couldn't care less about Olivia Munn. She barely belongs on G4 in my opinion, and she's just supposed to be eye candy. They flaunt that fact multiple times, and show videos of her eating hot dogs in slow motion, and I just don't give a shit. Whoo, she's in a skimpy bikini. Hooray.
I noticed the photos did look similar when it was unveil, Olivia is funny as hell and brings her own unique essence to the table, the unveil was good, Kevin flyers stole the show IMO. =)
