Western version of Final Fantasy XIII is 'complete' photo

Square Enix has today announced that the Western version of Final Fantasy XIII has finally been completed. The latest epic RPG from the venerable publisher is ready for both North America and Europe, with plenty of time to spare before its release date.

"FINAL FANTASY XIII overseas version is finally completed," writes Motomu Toriyama on the official site. "I am sorry for the long wait. At present, members of the development team in Japan are on a New Year holiday while awaiting an approval for the master disc.

"The overseas version was developed simultaneously with the Japanese one as we wanted to ensure that it comes out as soon after the Japanese release date as possible."

Final Fantasy XIII will release in North America and Europe on March 9. We're all looking forward to it over here. Are you excited, or are you all about hyped out?

Can't wait for it, myself. About time we got another main FF...hopefully they won't need to spend as much time on them in the future.

I'm still excited! I don't care about hype/bad reviews/what the fuck ever. I love me some Final Fantasy, the stories, and the characters draw me in..and of course the battle system, which this one looks amazing!
Fuck all the haters. I'm buying this, day one.

A solid rent for me, it was a solid buy until I heard the uproar in Japan - lets face facts if they're hating over it in Japan there's something to worry about.

I'll pick it up when it hits the $20 bin at Target (about 4-5 months after release like XII did).

I'll also likely be digging this up in a bargain bin several months/years from now. I did the same with 12 and was pleasantly surprised, though I never did finish it.

I want to be excited for this. I remember the times when I used to count the days until a new FF game was released, but I've been more and more disappointed by the FF series lately. They seem to just be getting worse.

FF games have two parts that I care about: Battle System and Story.
I've played every FF in the main series (I - X, X-2, XII and FFT) and up until IX I liked both the battle system and the story (sure, some of the older FFs are really dated now, but they were good when I first played them).

As for the newer ones:
-X had an ok Battle System and Story
-X-2 had a crappy story and a good battle system
-XII had a non existant story and a battle system I just couldn't get on board with
-XIII looks like it might have a good stroy, but what I've heard of the battle system does not encourage me.

Why can't they just make a new FFT? Give me a cool story and as many cut scenes as you want, but please give me a battle system that actually has some depth to it again. Make FFT-2, and no, don't give me FFTA

I'm with Verision. I don't care at all. Cancelled my preorder when I realised I hadn't enjoyed a FF game since VII. Another poor story with dull characters and terrible script? Let alone having the same combat system...no thanks

I would buy FF13 if they offered a 16 or 32 bit sprite version without there long ass fancy CGI movies and voice acting.

Final fantasy is to me like halo is to alot of people.. And no doubt I will
be puckin this up
day one and I will love this game.. But the fact it no matter how I loom at it it
probably won't be better than any of the final fantasy pre 10... 10 is no doubt my favorite fantasy out of all of them.. The story was the best and don't flame me 7 lovers everyone has their opinion 10 made me cry and me me feel epic an the battle system was the last of the original... 12 dissapointed me as a final fantasy fan and while 13 looks grey I think SE lost sight of what made final fantasy what it was... FF was an intelligent mans
game.. The stratagy was amazing and that's what made it what it is now
story came second and made it bigger than it already was.. The fact that u only get to control one
person shows that the game is prolly nothing more than a fancy hacn
slash.. And that is bringing down
my excient

I'm extremely excited, but thankfully I'll be getting Mass Effect 2 and Spirit Tracks this month, so my excitement will probably remain at a manageable level.

@Verision
I respect your opinion, but saying FFXII had a non-existent story, while implying that FFVII had a good one, is a pretty shaky position. FFXII certainly had a story, and it was rather good if you're into that kind of tale. I'm as big of a fan of traditional JRPG stories as anyone, but SE tried something different. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but that reflects more on personal preferences than the quality of the actual story.

I agree with you about Tactics, though. I want a new 360/PS3 game, with gorgeous 2-D art, tons more jobs, and lots of cameos from other FF and Square Enix games. A new DS Tactics would be awesome, as well.

Oh boy,here we go..........

As I've said, time and time again, that FFXII's story/premise is great. But hold on.Was it's execution well?Nope. It was full of balls. And trust me,no matter how many times someone says that FFX is great, always remember,it was either their first RPG,they played in their infancy(6-12 years old) or both(hey,I bloody like FFVIII,but that's because I played it when I was 8).I don't mean any harm or insult, but remembering the English laugh sequence in X made me just want to go die in a fire.(I hope no flames come my way regarding this.....)

Regarding FFXIII,just looking at the map of the entire game reminds me of FFX once again. One straight tunnel + no 3D airship manoeuvering + possibility of stupid execution = Not bloody interested.

I miss the 1999-2000 period for Square(NOT SQUARE-ENIX).Front Mission III + FFIX + Vagrant Story + other games was great..........

Even though it wasn't done by the team who did 12, I'll be playing it on day 1.

I would choke a bear to get a follow up to 12, but one of the things I like most about the Final Fantasy series is their ability to evolve and adapt. From just systems to breaking traditional JRPG gameplay, they've continued to innovate and change. I would like to see what changes in this one, even if there is no backtracking, racking and towns.

When Square Enix decides to make a new or remake Chrono Trigger and remake FF7 with cooler graphics, then they can have all my money, i don't care what if they charge 100 bucks for each. Until then, i just can't give a f*ck about FF anymore

I'm not expecting much from it. It'll be a fun JRPG and I'm gonna have a blast with it, but I don't want to be disappointed when I play it and be reminded for the umpteenth time that Square Enix games don't shine like they used to.

@HEL105

I didn't say that the story in FFXII was bad, I was saying that there wasn't enough of it. Usually a FF game has hours of story; if the game's 40 hours long, then you're going to spend 4-8 hours of it watching cut scenes, reading or listening to dialogue, etc. FFXII was quite long (if I remember correctly, been a few years), but it only had about an hour of story total. Heck, by the time I got to the end of the game I could barely remember who the bad guy was and why I wanted to stop him. Say what you want about FFVII, but no one is ever going to get to the end of that game and say "Who is Sephiroth again, and why am I fighting him????"

I think CaptainBright is right: FFXII had a good premise, but crappy execution.

There's no way I can say this without sounding like the utterest fanboy, but I've been playing since FF1 and I've almost never been disappointed by an FF game. Each one delivers a new battle system, new leveling mechanism, new characters and a new world with a new history. Some of them I like better than others, and they all have strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn't recommend them to just any player; it's a niche type of gameplay with an extremely Japanese mindset. But to me they've all been worth the purchase.

(And it is absolutely time for a new Tactics on a console. NAO.)

I've never played a main FF game I didn't like, some were disappointing in certain regards due to inflated expectations but that's almost a given with any over hyped series.

I was pretty much done with it after seeing various japanese gameplay vids of it. Admittedly, the battle system looks far better than what I was imagining, but that can't overcome the "jogging through killing tubes" feeling I got watching the vids. The story would have to be better than Tolkien or Donaldson for me to buy this game--and I doubt that's going to happen.

When this game is $20 or less, I might reconsider though.

I'm usually all over Final Fantasy but the english trailer Dale thought had great voice acting rubbed me up the wrong way, talk about OTT Jap soaps. It looks cool, but too fresh and too clean. No doubt there will be some mad JRPG challenges and I'll love the game (most likely) at east I'll definitely play it through to completion, but it's the sidequests and challenges which I love about FF, they're always good. FFXII's hunts were the most epic things ever. I'm just hoping they're done away with MMO stye random chests like in XII, one chest might possibly drop this, but only 2% of the time. This is a single player game, make the chest epic t get to, I don't want to restart the game 50 times just to get a fucking epic Lance.
