Square Enix has today announced that the Western version of Final Fantasy XIII has finally been completed. The latest epic RPG from the venerable publisher is ready for both North America and Europe, with plenty of time to spare before its release date.
"FINAL FANTASY XIII overseas version is finally completed," writes Motomu Toriyama on the official site. "I am sorry for the long wait. At present, members of the development team in Japan are on a New Year holiday while awaiting an approval for the master disc.
"The overseas version was developed simultaneously with the Japanese one as we wanted to ensure that it comes out as soon after the Japanese release date as possible."
Final Fantasy XIII will release in North America and Europe on March 9. We're all looking forward to it over here. Are you excited, or are you all about hyped out?

Personally I'm looking forward that Fanboy Friday like it's a fucking holiday.
Fuck all the haters. I'm buying this, day one.
FF games have two parts that I care about: Battle System and Story.
I've played every FF in the main series (I - X, X-2, XII and FFT) and up until IX I liked both the battle system and the story (sure, some of the older FFs are really dated now, but they were good when I first played them).
As for the newer ones:
-X had an ok Battle System and Story
-X-2 had a crappy story and a good battle system
-XII had a non existant story and a battle system I just couldn't get on board with
-XIII looks like it might have a good stroy, but what I've heard of the battle system does not encourage me.
Why can't they just make a new FFT? Give me a cool story and as many cut scenes as you want, but please give me a battle system that actually has some depth to it again. Make FFT-2, and no, don't give me FFTA
be puckin this up
day one and I will love this game.. But the fact it no matter how I loom at it it
probably won't be better than any of the final fantasy pre 10... 10 is no doubt my favorite fantasy out of all of them.. The story was the best and don't flame me 7 lovers everyone has their opinion 10 made me cry and me me feel epic an the battle system was the last of the original... 12 dissapointed me as a final fantasy fan and while 13 looks grey I think SE lost sight of what made final fantasy what it was... FF was an intelligent mans
game.. The stratagy was amazing and that's what made it what it is now
story came second and made it bigger than it already was.. The fact that u only get to control one
person shows that the game is prolly nothing more than a fancy hacn
slash.. And that is bringing down
my excient
@Verision
I respect your opinion, but saying FFXII had a non-existent story, while implying that FFVII had a good one, is a pretty shaky position. FFXII certainly had a story, and it was rather good if you're into that kind of tale. I'm as big of a fan of traditional JRPG stories as anyone, but SE tried something different. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but that reflects more on personal preferences than the quality of the actual story.
I agree with you about Tactics, though. I want a new 360/PS3 game, with gorgeous 2-D art, tons more jobs, and lots of cameos from other FF and Square Enix games. A new DS Tactics would be awesome, as well.
i'll wait for the game to drop price or buy it used. the only ff i bought at launch was 10 and origins for the ps1.
Every day is Fanboy Friday.
As I've said, time and time again, that FFXII's story/premise is great. But hold on.Was it's execution well?Nope. It was full of balls. And trust me,no matter how many times someone says that FFX is great, always remember,it was either their first RPG,they played in their infancy(6-12 years old) or both(hey,I bloody like FFVIII,but that's because I played it when I was 8).I don't mean any harm or insult, but remembering the English laugh sequence in X made me just want to go die in a fire.(I hope no flames come my way regarding this.....)
Regarding FFXIII,just looking at the map of the entire game reminds me of FFX once again. One straight tunnel + no 3D airship manoeuvering + possibility of stupid execution = Not bloody interested.
I miss the 1999-2000 period for Square(NOT SQUARE-ENIX).Front Mission III + FFIX + Vagrant Story + other games was great..........
I would choke a bear to get a follow up to 12, but one of the things I like most about the Final Fantasy series is their ability to evolve and adapt. From just systems to breaking traditional JRPG gameplay, they've continued to innovate and change. I would like to see what changes in this one, even if there is no backtracking, racking and towns.
I'm mad.
I didn't say that the story in FFXII was bad, I was saying that there wasn't enough of it. Usually a FF game has hours of story; if the game's 40 hours long, then you're going to spend 4-8 hours of it watching cut scenes, reading or listening to dialogue, etc. FFXII was quite long (if I remember correctly, been a few years), but it only had about an hour of story total. Heck, by the time I got to the end of the game I could barely remember who the bad guy was and why I wanted to stop him. Say what you want about FFVII, but no one is ever going to get to the end of that game and say "Who is Sephiroth again, and why am I fighting him????"
I think CaptainBright is right: FFXII had a good premise, but crappy execution.
(And it is absolutely time for a new Tactics on a console. NAO.)
*Puts on trench coat and shifty eyes*
I demand satisfaction.
When this game is $20 or less, I might reconsider though.
