Western Fist of the North Star to be more violent! photo

As if we needed any further proof that Japan regards Western gamers as bloodthirsty gorehounds, Omega Force producer Hisashi Koinuma has stated that his team is likely planning a more brutal version of Fist of the North Star for the roundeye fans. The game is already out in Japan, and seems to be selling quite well.

"There won't be any gameplay changes," says Koinuma. "However, for overseas fans, we'll probably adjust the expressions of violence so that it's more extreme."

Omega Force is also planning DLC for the game, having just released an original Manga costume for Kenshiro in Japan. More scenarios, including a challenge mode, are being considered. While a sequel has not been confirmed, Koinuma notes that fan demand may create the need for one, as well as other anime/Manga adaptations in future. Of course, this is a Tecmo Koei game, so more sequels and spin-offs are basically guaranteed.

Fist of the North Star is a melding of the original Manga and Dynasty Warriors style gameplay. It's looked pretty damn awesome to us and we can't wait for the Western release, especially if they're upping the violence ante. I admit it, I am a bloodthirsty gorehound.

I guess they think that games won't sell here unless there's blood being vomited up by every character in the game... Which I suppose must have some truth to it. ;P

The Japanese seem to flip their views on violence pretty regularly.

I thought the game didn't seem particularly gory.
Considering the manga has people gibbing all over the place.

When I watch animes like Claymore or movies like Princess Mononoke, I don't see how Japan can point the finger at us and consider westerners more violent and gore thirsty.

*shrug*

Hell if I care. I've never actaully heard of Fist of the North Star. I'll look into the game. Might just make me a fan.

I have no idea how they can make this more violent than the original show. People would literally explode and dismember in that thing. The only way it might happen is if you could not only kill someone but then go kill their family and their dog.

In the anime was actually not very gorey at all. Much of it was silhouette so you knew what was happening but they never actually showed it from what I remember.

Not that I mind at all.

I agree you are a bunch of gwilo mofos, but I don't know about this gore crap. I mean the most goriest things I've ever seen are from Japan. Ranging from literal violence gore to sex gore (you figure this one out, and I'm pretty sure we don't have this in the US). I mean come on even to this day I've yet to see a gorier American film in REALITY meaning using real people, that exceeds Japanese animation in sheer gore. Sure we have by far better THRILLER/SUSPENSE movies, but I've yet to see one top the gore. The Japanese get every blood vessel, artery, brain lobe, kidney everything down. SAW - nothing, Dead Space - Pathetic, these are Japanese films I WILL NEVER watch again if you payed me. NEVER. What's more messed up is that I seen a lot of these films around the age of 10 (more than 15 years ago). Which could explain a few things. Though I have noticed a transformation in Japan of less of these films being available in the new era, however it doesn't mean they don't exist, also many of these films have seen critical success.

@ninjikiran There were two versions of the original Fist of the Northstar, it was deemed so gory, so brutal, that a second version was made you know for conservative rental stores. It was also the same one aired on a few channels (though I'm pretty sure these channels were still premium, and I'm not sure why they used this version), it might even be the version most people have seen, I don't know. I know I have seen the original.

Too much Dynasty warriors influence. Needs more Godhand influence.
Truth be I have only seen game play clips, not actually played the game yet. Unless reviews, from sources I'm familiar with, rate this poorly I will most likely get it anyway.
More gore had better not equal visual effects that obscure because that would irritate me.

Depictions of violence that matches the manga? Downloadable content? Jim, every time you talk about this game, it keeps getting better.

I seem to recall "Sword of the Berserk" for the Dreamcast adding more blood for the western version, as well.

The more I hear of this game, the more excited I get. Fist is pure 80's action for dudes, how things used to be before everything got all conservative. More red sauce can only enhance the already exagerrated manga stylings this game is based off.

Jim Sterling, you're a piece of shit. Using the term "round eyes"? Spoiling the ending of Heavy Rain and the identity of the origami killer because you hate the game to your readers? Really? You're bottom of the barrel man. I miss professional video game journalism. dipshit.

I think its possible that Koei brings Hokuto Musou to the US, however from a marketing standpoint not many people know much bout HNK/Fist Of The North Star. It will be a cult classic for sure, myself and a good amount of my friends will be getting it the moment it comes out in the US, which I think is a very strong chance of that happening. There has only been one game I can think of that Koei didnt release over here and that was Warriors Orochi Z for ps3 not that it truly mattered to me since I dont own a ps3 at the moment. But lets hope an pray that Koei is listening to fans of the series in the US and will release it here...oh and with the 90's voice cast...gotta say best dubbing of the series imo
