It's only been a few days since the announcement and already we are getting gameplay footage of the new Rocket Knight game. Who knew my guardian angel was A) into videogames and B) a total badass?
The trailer shows what has to be the earliest section of the game. It looks to me like a classic scenario. Sparkster starts fighting with his old-time rival Axel Gear only to be interrupted by a ludicrous boss -- this time, a mechanized wolf -- that takes up the entire screen.
I may not be into the visual style so much, but the color palette and most other aspects of Rocket Knight appear to be on the right track. It pretty much goes without saying that this XBLA/PSN/Steam title will have some mad expectations to live up to. What are you guys thinking so far?
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Meet the rest of the team
Sad to say, I may have to demo this one rather than purchase it outright. I'm not digging the visual style at all so the gameplay will have to be top notch otherwise I'll just stick with my genesis Rocket Knight.
I was actually more interested in the 2D version... very nice, vibrant sprite work... the 3D just seemed really rather plain... might have help if they chose a brighter color scheme
Too many of these straight-to-PSN/Xbox Live/WiiWare games are using really generic (and probably cost-effective) 3D that is completely uninspired in its look. Give those big, blocky polygons some good art direction, people!
The speed of the action seems really inconsistent. On one end you have fast rocket boost, fast bullets when you're flying and then the jumping, physics and sword slashes are really slow by comparison to that and the original rocket knight.
I don't want it to be a cluster fuck but I think they just need to tweek those animations a little to make it feel right.
Man I was so excited when first saw the screen shots but now... I'm not so sure. Still looks good but something about the trailer just doesn't feel right
The trailer looks like it's from an earlier build than the screenshots (The screens looked almost like LittleBigPlanet) so hopefully that's all it is. I played the shit out of this game as a kid so I hope they get it right. That classic footage got me more nostalgic than anything else has managed to do in maybe 10 years.
If it's cheap, I'll probably check it out, just because Rocket Knight is awesome... but it really doesn't seem to hold a candle to the sprite based graphics of the Genesis, in my opinion. But hey, if it plays really well, no big deal.
everyone seems to feel the same about the art direction, I wonder if there's a way to let Konami know that no one is truly feeling it. I mean they don't have to completely scrap the look, but it just looks soo...for some reason generic. Rocket Knight back in the day always had awesome sprites and great animation, I'm just not seeing that type of care in this title quite yet...and side note I'm iffy on the sword use.
Yeah, the way the game looks is a little suspect, but it is early days, and I hope that it captures a little of what made Rocket Knight Adventures so good.

Yeah, something prototype-y about the levels and the general design.
But, it looks pretty true to the gameplay of the originals, I suppose.
This...looks...like Deadhead said, uninspired...I may demo this.
rest assured ill still probably get it
ill say it again... sunsetriders remake... only a matter of time
It looks like it plays pretty well, though.
I loved the original game though.
I don't want it to be a cluster fuck but I think they just need to tweek those animations a little to make it feel right.
They should have gone the ReBirth route.
Already can't wait for this.
Never gave the first a try due to my hatred for Possums. Still hate them, and aim for them with my car or slingshot when I can.
