Well? Is Brawl coming out on a reasonable date or not?

Well? Is Brawl coming out on a reasonable date or not? photo
     Europe

Last night I reported/ranted, perhaps rantported on Nintendo confirming that there are no plans to release Super Smash Bros. Brawl before July, at least five months after the February US release date. With Nintendo now the focus of my unburning rage, the company has decided to play with European heartstrings some more as it now plants a seed of hope in anybody who still cares about the game.

"The Nintendo 1st & 3rd party Software lineup release schedule which was distributed by Nintendo on Thursday 6th December confirmed launch dates for Nintendo titles launching in Q1 2008," Nintendo told CVG "Nintendo also included some titles which were fixed for release beyond Q1 2008 such as Mario Kart Wii. All Nintendo software titles launching in Q2 2008 have not been finalised or confirmed to date."

While some now see this as a sign that Brawl may be coming out sooner than expected, Nintendo really didn't say anything on the matter in that spiel. The fact remains that Nintendo yesterday stated it had no plans to release Brawl in Europe during Q1 or Q2 of 2008. Nintendo has not retracted that statement at all and instead has issued some vague collection of sentences. We want a real confirmation, please.

I don't much care to play Brawl and I might not even be in Europe when the game finally comes out, but I'm sick of this market being the redheaded stepchild of the gaming world. You charge us more money than other territories anyway, so why isn't it good enough? Modchips FTW, by the way.

Like I said. Release dates are never to be trusted, especially if they're from Nintendo.

The original reply was: "[Super Smash Bros. Brawl] is currently not planned for a release in Q1 or Q2 next year."

Notice how the Nintendo rep didn't even type the title of the game. It was probably some flunky who answers a few dozen release date emails per day, who saw SSBB wasn't on the list and didn't check any further.

That last post was poorly worded. The part in brackets was added by CVG; the rep probably originally typed "it" or some other pronoun.

What makes it so hard to release a game that's already in English into the UK. Do they need to release one copy that has all of the languages of the region (like Canada), or do they have a bunch of different language versions and try to release them simultaneously across the continent?

I don't really understand how all this works... but F YOU NINTENDO! Radiohead will be crying when they find out they'll have to fly to the US just to get a damn copy of Thom's favorite game.

IF YOU KNOW THE GAME WILL BE FINISHED IN Q1, SAY Q1. IF NOT, SAY Q2 YOUR PR FUCKBAGS.

It's not even really in english that much at all - it's all sound effects! Well, excluding the text and who actually ever reads that when they play a smash bros game? I don't have to be told I've beaten Yoshi! I can tell that from the way I just splattered him over the stage!

Pew@ Don't you mean SCEE? As you couldn't really compare sony's american branch to nintendo's european branch...

But if this game is delayed for so long it will suck quite a bit, melee still is one of my all time favourite games and I can't wait for brawl...
Agreed that on release dates SCEE > NoE, now if they cleared up the whole rootkit business etc they would be a company I would be willing to buy from again...

Maybe he meant after July for the US and even later for Europe? Nintendo delayed Super Mario Galaxy till Thanksgiving, I can them delaying Smash Bros. till Thanksgiving 08.

After July? Are they shitting me? Fucking Europe, we're not even part of it really, they all hate us, I don't know why we bother. Everyone needs to hurry up and learn the one true language of the world.

I think what frustrates people most about this stuff is there's nothing you can do about it. If they decide its coming out in 2010 then it is. You have no influence on the matter and everyone hates feeling helpless.

@insomnia: I dislike SCEA more than SCEE, I'd just rate both of them above Nintendo Europe at the moment. Until proven otherwise, that is :)

"Modchips FTW, by the way."

This is really the most ironic thing about all this--Nintendo is trying to stop the homebrew and modding on their systems, but with such horrid delays for major titles they're only encouraging it. And on one hand you can't blame them for wanting to stop things such as the R4, but on the other hand you really can't blame the poor people over in Europe who continually get the shaft.
