Scraps

This weekend, The Minibosses and MC Frontalot were in town. Well, The Minibosses live here, but that's neither here nor there. They were performing at a party for Kingdom of Loathing Con V (which was also open to the public) and, as expected, it was a great show. The show was stolen, however, by MC Lars.

I'd heard of MC Lars but wasn't familiar with his stuff. He classifies his music as "Post-punk laptop hip-hop," which is as good a description as I could possibly give it. Dude can rhyme, though, and he samples a good bit of videogame music in his stuff. Swing by his site and download a few tracks or, as he would encourage, go download a torrent and give him a listen. I'm getting hooked on it.

Now, on to some news:

  • GameStop has changed the release date in their systems for Rise of the Argonauts. It may be delayed until early 2009. [Kotaku
  • A survey from Sony that seems to relate to Massive Action Game is asking PSN members questions about subscriber fees. This one might not have the free online play we've come to expect from the service. [GamesRadar]
  • A Korean Starcraft fan has recreated the Terran race in Spore. This is some impressive dedication right here. [1Up]
  • After the Ensemble re-organization announcement, Phil Spencer says the futures of Lionhead and Rare are secure. [Kotaku]

MC Lars is good times.

"Pro Tools, Logic, cut-copy-paste; quantized solos and quantized bass."

I love that guy.

Man that sounds like a killer show. One of the best concerts I've ever seen was on Frontalot's Secrets From the Future tour a few years back when he came through Minneapolis with Optimus Rhyme and MC Lars. That was quite the show. I'd highly recommend Optimus if you haven't already heard them, Conrad.

@DanlHaas: I saw Optimus Rhyme at PAX 07. They're pretty good, but I can only take so much of Wheelie Cyberman's rapping.
