Freespace 2 might be a good one for the future.
The problem there is that there's SO many practically essential mods for Morrowind and Oblivion. And it can get quite complex to get everything playing together nicely.
Google knotts morrowind overhaul. He makes the best guides for tes games. Morrowind 2011 is a joke
However most of the links I tried to download were down, I only managed to get Gibberling's mod.

We have as a community, forced companies to simplify their game mechanics too far (I agree that sometimes game mechanics can be overly archiac and complex but games like Skyrim and Mass Effect have taken the RPG game systems too far away from their roots and too close to action games.) and due to the demand that every single line of text be voice acted in a game now (because people seem to hate reading.) we have killed off the verbosity of story telling as well as the imagination of the player.
Not to mention that every RPG now is really just a disguised FPS or 3PS. When was the last time you saw a triple A top down (or isometric) RPG?
Console gamers should take note - many old games will run on just about ANY pc, no need for anything special. That old laptop you use to write your school papers? There are tons of classic and indie games you can play on that thing. Study break! :D
I agree with Eternal, the switch over from text to full voice-overs has really crippled RPGs today. Between having to hire actors, have studio recording time, compress the voices to fit a limited amount of space allotted on your disk, make the acting believable or "fit", and etc. It is a daunting task especially since at every turn you are limited by some constraint. Whereas with text, wow, the possibilities are limitless. Occupying nearly zero percentage of space, and hampered only by the creativity of the people/person working on the task. Now we expect games to be cinematic to convey the same feelings and whimsy that use to be conveyed by our imaginations. But, what do you do? Other than hope some developer just "gets it" or you yourself make the game.
I haven't played through Planescape is so long. Think I might need to remedy that.
Actually, CD Projekt was (and still is) the main publisher localizing games in Poland for years already: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_Projekt. So it's not really a singular fact. They went on to create CD Projekt RED, and adapt the work of famous writer Andrzej Sapkowski as a great RPG, but it's not really directly related.
Besides, many references to planescape recently, and this guide to make it look less "640" might just be the thing for me to discover what I missed.

Also, step 6 is not only unnecessary, it will probably cause problems in all of your other games.
Hope you do something for Jagged Alliance 2, since it had some great customisations over the years.
Also, it would be nice for someone to do a bluffer's guide for DOSbox and the like. I basically had to learn from jumping from website to website, video to video, so it would be nice if there was a compliation of links.
Just make sure that you turn Direct Draw back on before you play any other games.
