Regarding the booth babes... they're models, not gamers. What's really sad is if you ask them any questions about the game they're actually at the booth for - generally they don't have a clue. I remember a G4 video where they did just that one year... and one gal actually said something to the effect of "I don't have to know about the game... I have these... everyone's way more interested in these" - said while pointing to her boobs and shoving them at the camera.
uhhh... yeah.
Wish I could watch the Portal 2 video but I can't because I still haven't played the game yet. It's next on my "get" list though.
I want to be very careful not to cause offense or over-state the point....but there's more than a few 'pop culture gamer' gals hanging about the fringes of video game/entertainment sites who at heart, are much more about social networking/promotion than a deep font of industry knowledge or a flare for writing. There are good looking gals and guys who are great reviewers and/or writers of course, I'm not making a superficial correlation. It's also not a great crime to find a niche to market yourself in. But if we're going to start chucking stones at video game booth girls for being LOL dumb T&A attention-seekers........maaaaaybe, at a more subtle level, there's some glass houses out there.
Also thanks so much Brian. I'm glad you managed to figure a way out from underneath the rock you've been living under to share your oh so special opinion with us.
I do agree that there is a bit of a fine line with these types of videos because given the obvious nature of the situation, though. Sometimes this type of questioning can come off as a cheap, mean-spirited ego boost to the interviewer and target audience by implying how much better they are at the expense of the clueless interviewees. This is especially true when it's over matters of trivia.
Anyway, enough serious shit. The Halo pinball was pretty interesting and I now know who iJustine is and that makes me a very sad panda. :(
Quick, everyone: Who designed Kate Middleton's wedding dress?
See? Not that simple.
I've been gaming for over 20 years and still it's one of my main interests but I only got Bioshock(which i never actually finished) and Link (only ever played Link to the Past and... the one with the boat on DS)
I mean come on! how many gamers know all 3 starter pokemon?! charizard does stir some distant memories from Red back in '98 i think... but if you'd asked me i'd probly have said pikachu as well!
Boyz 2 Men. Honestly. O_o
Also, wouldn't mind the ball going faster and bouncing a bit more Reach pinball.
Also also, glad the Awesome series has returned.
