Before the dinosaurs partied themselves out of existence, we reviewed two games by Swedish developer, Frictional Games: Penumbra: Overture Episode 1 and Penumbra: Black Plague. Both titles were dark, creative puzzle-oriented FPS titles that received decent review scores. Now Frictional is back with a new game, Unknown, and judging from the assets we received, it seems like the developer is capitalizing on what they accomplished with their previous titles.
One caveat: Unknown won’t be released until the second quarter of 2010. The game has just entered full production, which means that the screens in the gallery and the video after the break are raw. However -- as pointed out by the press blurb we received -- they do give you a pretty good indication of style. Check them out.
Oh, and all the stuff used to create the environment in the video will be made available for users to toy around with when the game hits. I guess it’s time to figure out how to program nightlights in the HPL2 engine.
I played Penumbra a couple years ago. The AI adn the lighting technology was probably the only thing that impressed me, I'm not much of a fan of first person puzzle solving games.
