We could see a Fallout TV show or movie in the future photo

Want a Fallout television show or movie? That may happen. Joystiq recently spotted two Bethesda Softworks trademarks that indicate that the studio behind Fallout 3 and Oblivion is looking to take the Fallout in two very interesting directions.

The first trademark, the television related one, says quite simply that Bethesda desires to use Fallout for “entertainment services in the nature of an on-going television program.” The other trademark is for “motion picture films about a post-nuclear apocalyptic world.” Both trademarks were filed in early February.

I’ve been thinking deeply about these two trademarks for the last seventeen seconds and I firmly believe that anything Fallout Bethesda creates or pitches in a non-videogame related capacity should be animated. I like cartoon doggies ... and corpses. Make it happen, Bethesda.

No surprise there. I want a Fallout series myself, and IT HAS TO BE EITHER NARRATED OR STAR RON PERLMAN.

when i think about a fallout TV series, i see the Tremors TV series. massive potential for both win and fail, most likely the latter.

Theres enough room there to make an intriguing story with characters struggling in the waste. Could be interesting.

Oh and they did a Tremors series? Oh dear, considering the franchise was purely B movie trash, I don't really see the Tv series potential.

I do like the sound of a movie. But a TV series? Strangely enough, I just got an idea for what the show could be about.

"The Misadventures of Fawkes. Follow our mutated friend as he tries hard to fit in with the people of the Wasteland. But watch out, not everyone is willing to accept his friendship. Fawkes will do anything to be friends and I mean anything. Watch all of his crazy antics as the laughs never stop. Coming this summer."

I'd watch it.

I think the series, done right, would be better than a movie. And I agree with Brad, MUST be animated.

If given a decent budget, Fallout could work out as a decent series.

TV show? Yes that could work. Give it about 20 or so episodes and you can have a decent first season that explores the Fallout universe.

However, a film? They'd be hard pressed to try to cram all the things that make "fallout", well, "fallout" within 2 to 3 hours. A TV show would be the way to go, and then you release a film based on the TV show.

I think that this could be cool. A TV show or a movie, if done well, could be great.

In order to make it work - you'd probably have to make the first 6 or so episodes be about the lead up to the nuclear war and the construction of the vaults. Then the next 7 episodes can be about vault life. After that, you've got another 7 episodes to portray either more vault life, or do a time skip ahead to when they open the vault in the future and explore the waste land.

The second season (assuming there IS one) can explore the wasteland in more detail, throw in a few raider and ghouls slavers. But then focus more on the Super Mutants and the wierd cults and the brother-hood of steel.

There's enough content in Fallout to last more than 3 seasons, as long as they beef it up and add more detail to it. Could be a great way of extending the universe for future games as well.

It would have to be really gritty, so if HBO or the like wanted to pick it up, it could be good. I think a movie would be the best, as it could get away with a lot more than TV. However, I think keeping it as a game (developed by Bethesda preferably) is the best.

Couldn't possibly be as buggy and glitchy as the actual game, right?

Considering the dark humor and such I couldn't see this being a good idea. Can Bethesda bastardize this series any further?

I think a TV has potential, given that they go in with a pre-planned plotline and number of episodes.

Actually when i think about it, the TV show Jericho could fit in nicely as sort of prequel to a Fallout-esque universe. Government conspiracies, nuclear war, drop in some mutants and we got ourselves a show. Damn shame it got cancelled.

No thanks. I doubt that anyone would stump up the budget to produce a post-apocalyptic wasteland for every episode if it was live action, and I don't much fancy a cartoon version.

Oh and imagine if it was Bethesda who oversaw the scriptwriting process? Their writers are weak as hell. Nobody expects much from video game stories and they still manage to underwhelm.

We don't need a movie either - the movie adaptation of The Road is due out this year and the book pisses all over anything we'd see from these jokers.

I think this is more likely to be an animated series. This would keep costs down, keep creative control and as faithful to the games as possible.

All previous efforts from Capcom, EA and Square have been too, and this speaks better to the target audience. DVD sales will also be a good source of income.

Saying that though, I'd love to see a live action series. After Jericho though, it might be tricky to get people interested. Jericho was a cool show, and I absolutely hated to see it go.

Animation is incredibly expensive. Even CGI animation. So I highly doubt this will be a cartoon.

But a TV show would be interesting I think. I'd rather it be a series of novels though personally.

Interplay had the same ideas once. I don't know how I feel about that. I have a pretty good feeling that it could suck pretty hard. And I'm not sure how well any of this would do if it were live-action. Just seems like it'll be cheesy and awkward if it's not animated. But I hadn't truly thought about this for quite a while, back when Interplay first showed interest in such things. We'll see.

For those who think it would be too financially difficult to pull this show off, I think they could find ways to scale it down. For example, a large portion of the show could simply take place in a Vault. That would be a very easy set to put together for most of the typical day-to-day shots and character drama. They could emerge from the Vault to explore. It might sound boring to be trapped in a Vault, but think about Stargate: SG1. They spent a great deal of time in an underground base.

In any case, I'm sure they could find ways to scale it down and make it manageable. I just hope they make it a serious drama and not some dumb action show.

Would make a fantastic prequel, BSG style action/Sci-Fi Drama, showing the corruption and experimentation on humans leading up to the war. Bring out the total greatness of the pre-war technology with focus on a few key characters. Follow the character's attempts and failures of surviving after the bombs (inside and outside the vaults). Then jump to the future / fallout present day where we start to piece together what happened to the survivors and how perhaps a hero saves the wastes. A Mad Max style would kill it, it should really be a post "Star-Treky" type feel.
