The original Shantae is coming to Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console on June 20, WayForward has announced. Originally released in the dying days of the Game Boy Color, the acclaimed platformer managed to garner a pair of sequels, Shantae: Risky's Revenge and the forthcoming Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, despite less than impressive sales.

WayForward hopes to give the cult classic a second chance at success with a new audience on 3DS, where the title will be making its debut in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand after being previously exclusive to North America.
