Pardon the quote. It seemed appropriate.
Warner Bros. has released the first official batch of screenshots for the upcoming episodic action title, Watchmen: The End is Nigh. They look decent but they're also still images and I can't shake this sinking feeling that I'm not going to like what I see when they're in motion. I would love for this to be a game that pays homage to my favorite graphic novel without tarnishing its legacy. And I have just slightly more hope for that than Rorschach has about, well, everything.
Along with the batch of screens, some concept art for the environments has appeared as well. The design of the front of Happy Harry's Bar might as well be a shooped version of an early promotional still put out for the film. For that matter, they probably just decided to save the money on concept art for the game and passed it off as being new.
If the thought of a Watchmen beat-em-up depresses you terribly, here's something I discovered while writing this story which might put a wry smile on your face. Click this link to www.whowatchesthewatchmen.com (totally SFW). I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Also, this is probably old news, but they've set up a viral New Frontiersman website and YouTube channel. It's worth checking out.

As for the game, this actually sounds pretty cool. Prequel, you say? There is no good reason this couldn't work, as long as the developers respect the subject matter. Hell, cracking heads as Rorschach has got to be worth renting, at the very least.
Also, cainball wins the internets.
Maybe a game where you were just Rorschach going around solving crimes while leaving a bloody trail behind you, maybe I could handle that. But something doesn't feel right here.
It's a downloadable game.
That said, I loved (loved, loved) the film adaption of V for Vendetta.
Unless, of course, it was a different genre, like an adventure game or whatever.
